Season 45, Week 3
Melfice
(Grandia 2)

Hear the sound of wailing, deranged laughter and quail in fear. Melfice has wrung up another victim with the same ease that he's slaughtered the other twenty or so fools who have tried to match him in combat (not that anyone's counting). Taking down a god from the Grandia universe is a scary ordeal to many. But not to Melfice, who saw personally how inept Valmar really was. There's a reason a mere piece of the former Great Dark God is a winning Godlike while its combined "might" struggles in Heavy. Xorn may be a little tougher and faster than Zera, but not enough to scrounge up a real challenge to the demonic swordsman. Wailing Soul Slash will eviscerate this emo excuse for a God, much like it has slaughtered so many other foes who dared to lock horns with Melfice.

Would anyone think even the great Valmar could begin to stand up to Xorn? The mere thought is but a laugh riot; Xorn holds a fierce reputation as the most powerful of the Grandia villains by landslides. And Melfice is not even the whole of Valmar, being rather an insignificant fragment. Xorn should have little trouble disposing of what effectively is a lackey to Valmar. Melfice may be a fast monstrosity, but that agility pales in comparison to Xorn’s own breakneck nimbleness, and Xorn’s bevy of ITE physicals and earth-devouring magic are perfect for getting around Melfice’s evade. He can even kill Melfice’s buffing game with the wails of Despair. If that isn’t enough, his superior durability and the limit of Dimension Gate should quickly end Melfice’s hope of another run!

Zidane's plan made a certain amount of sense. He was going to interfer with three out of four of the Godlike fights (Even he had an inkling that pissing off Myria was not worth it on pretty much any level), and pay off Jade Curtiss by interfering with his match. How would he mess with Melfice and Xorn? Mental attacks were extremely unlikely to work, with Melfice being a psychopath and Xorn being unable to even grasp the concept of sanity and insults. He had sewed up one fight with his mind (Well Jade, but who's counting?), and another with influence. Now he was going to use bribery to get the job done.

Sure, spending Alexandria's entire treasury to hire out the entire Chrono Cross cast was a bit rash and likely to made Garnet a bit unhappy with him, but Zidane had a reputation to protect. And yeah, agreeing to hand himself over to Ghaleon and his minions after this was all done in exchange for Ghaleon reffing the fight and allowing random Chrono Cross invasions as a DL legal attack, but hey. Zidane would win! WIN!

Serge and company charged into the arena and quickly took up arms, attacking both fighters at will. The endless wave of fighters would have overwhelmed almost anyone with a barest pause. "Almost" being the key word here. Melfice and Xorn were many things, but both were accounted the among the fastest Godlikes in the DL itself, specializing in MT damage. And Melfice wasn't as physically tough as Xorn, but he was next to impossible to hit with melee attacks.

It was a wild scramble. Melfice dodged and evaded as fast as humanely possible while keeping most of the way of fighters away from him. He was still bleeding from head to toe from the blows, and Maken Valborg was covered from tip to tip in blood. Xorn took waves of physical attacks and ignored the pain and gaping wounds they caused, instead focusing on savagely tearing into the line of CC fighters who kept attacking. Understandably most of the focus was on the more dangerous Xorn, who kept on killing no matter how much damage was done. But not even a god could withstand limitless punishment. With a brutal critical hit from Serge, Xorn shuddered and slumped to the ground.

The combined efforts of the Horn of Valmar and the slayer of the Guardians had killed two thirds of the fighters and pushed the rest into a small group in the center of the ring, next to Xorn's brualized body. Melfice had long since had his Sword broken by some of the CC members magic spells and was near death from a thousand tiny cuts and incidential blows. His Regenator had been blown away by the combined efforts of Glenn and Karsh, who had been flattened shortly thereafter by a Demon Horde slash at point blank range. Evil Horn attack kept anyone from getting too close to Melfice, but it didn't matter. He was bleeding out and had no way to heal the damage done. What was left of the Chrono Cross cast slowly moved towards Melfice, led by a battered but still dangerous Serge. With Xorn out of the way, there was nothing left to do but put Melfice down and claim their reward from Zidane.

It had all gone more or less according to plan. But what was a little plan to cause trouble without a bit of spice thrown in? Zidane nimbly climbed over Riddel's body (He would find out later that Zoah had sat out of this melee because of his match this week, and had seen this and reported it to Glenn and the rest of the Dragoons. This would lead to a tremendous ass kicking from Viper, Karsh, and Dario.) and tossed a Phoenix Down on Xorn.

Like the aforementioned Phoenix, Xorn rose from the ashes to his full height and loomed over the entire battlefield and began charging a Thunderclap to finish off everything in sight. A well thrown knife to the back- after all, Xorn had been revived with the tinest sliver of vitality- once again knocked Xorn out, who silently teeterted and fell forward onto the wild brawl. Only one fighter engaged in battle so much as saw the giant shadow that was crashing to earth, bringing doom to villian and hero alike. With half a dozen would be heroes tangling with him, Melfice wasn't able to do anything besides lift a battered arm up and hopefully shield at least a little of the pain- well, and rip off another midboss's line. Considering the circumstances, not a single person watching the fight could blame the Horn of Valmar for plagiary.

"WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO-" *BOOM.*

The line was good, but not good enough to let a much amused Ghaleon award the fight Xorn for squashing so many insects at once.

Melfice: 17
Xorn: 23
