Season 43, Week 5
Jewel
(Suikoden IV)

Ooh, a soft, squishy mage! Just the victim for Jewel to face in her final match of the season. While Jewel may not have the mageslaying asset of Silent Lake, no thanks to her abysmal magic, she still has the perfect tools to defeat Erk. With her solid magical defenses, augmented nicely by her Diamond Set, Jewel can take quite the punishment from the mage's flimsy spells. Of course, Jewel still has plenty of healing for when Erk does come close to killing her, and her physical will be quite potent against Erk’s soft, squishy build. Jewel even has the speed to both give her the first turn and guarantee that Erk won't double. With so many edges under her beck and call, the seafaring soldier is sure to take home her first championship! Now, for the gala dress she's gonna wear on the ceremony...

Apparently, against the perky soldier Jewel, the unlucky Erk is stuck in a classic Water Runer vs. Mage conundrum... which would be worrying for him, certainly. Yes, Silent Lake, which shuts down all magic, would certainly spell doom. However, this isn't the case. Jewel's ineptitude in magic is so severe that she can't even muster the spellcasting prowess to use Silent Lake to begin with. As such, Erk can simply worry about raining deadly thunders from heaven with reckless abandon. With counters to effectively double his offense against Jewel and his own solid speed to keep him afloat, nothing can keep Erk from winning. Not even dealing with Serra as a cheer leader - in just the right time, a critical thunderbolt will connect and fry Jewel once and for all, making Erk the Light champion of Season 43!

When your claim to power is a WATER RUNE and you're in light, you know you're a Suikoscrub. Compared to a blastin', thrashin' wizard like Erk and you see why Jewel goes down in flames.
