Season 43, Week 4
Tear Grants
(Tales of the Abyss)

Denizen of the sunken Yulia City and mistress of Fonic songs, Tear is quickly proving that she’s an extremely dangerous woman to face in the dueling arena. So far she’s shown excellent skill at hamstringing opposing mages, and now she gets to face another. Tengaar’s Earthquake may be a powerful attack, but she has rather pitiful spell charges available to power all her spells and Tear has plentiful healing. If Tengaar tries to heal lock with a physical, Tear can stall by using Nightmare to stun Tengaar while still damaging her, or buff her stats while healing with Holy Song. And if Tengaar still tries to draw the match out, Tear’s overlimit will eventually activate, giving her plenty of opportunity to rain holy hell down on her opponent.

After crushing that vapid nunnery girl under a pile of debris, Tengaar hoped to move on to more exciting challenges, against women that have more personality than a satin ribbon. Tear Grants, a highly skilled soldier with a strong sense of duty(and an actual spine), is quite an upgrade from Alice personality-wise. However, she faces the same issues Alice faced against the Warrior Village dweller: Earthquake's offensive capabilities are still just as strong as ever, and Tengaar can actually heal-lock Tear more easily than she could Alice. Canopy Defense and Revenge Earth will cause a similar lockdown on Tear's offense, as well. While she is glad to fight ladies with actual spunk, Tengaar is still here to prove she has the panache to be called a woman warrior in Middle!

Two women.

Playing chess in parkas.

Little did they understand that Edge was in a match and Yuri was busy killing all of the other perverts. Their choice of clothing, normally useful here, was pointless...

As the blazing summer sun shone down on their outdoor match.

And shone down.

And shone down...

And shone down....

You know, they really should have had a timer.......

"...I don't...understand this...this is some kind of a beautiful dream, isn't it?" Brey asked, stunned, as Tengaar and Tear played chess in their underwear, parkas discarded on the arena floor, as the fourth hour of their chess match wore on. "I mean, there's no one bothering them, and they're..I...they....this...what?"

"Oh, just enjoy it." Lexis grinned, as he munched popcorn, one of the few inhabitants of the nearly empty arena.

Tengaar's chess victory was closely won, as the two were nearly an even match. Tear was, fortunately, far more flustered, however, by the choice between stripping or heat stroke.

There would be no record of this match, no photos. The judges had fallen asleep before in the first hour, as had most of the sparse crowd, and were only woke after the victory and subsequent re-robing...

Only a dedicated, nerdy few, interested enough in a chess match after three hours saw what truly happened.

And it will be a beautiful secret they carry to the end of their days.

Tear Grants: 19
Tengaar: 29
