Season 43, Week 1
Freed Yamamoto
(Suikoden II)

Poor Freed. Having a charming daughter and a beautiful wife alongside a terrific job, he can not understand why the Duelling League mocks him so. Is his ability with the blade so bad? I mean, he doesn't drop it mid-fight or anything, and, glasses aside, he can actually aim... it's strange. However, Freed has a shot at proving himself, and boy, what a golden chance that is! Against the hallowed Dragon Cavalry warrior Rahal, Freed Yamamoto will finally get a chance to shine - and all it takes is a victory! Intimidation factor aside, Freed has a solid shot: with the Lightning Rune attached to his blade, Freed can outdamage Rahal's own slashes, and he has enough durability to outlast the crossdressing knight. In a battle of guts, wits and blades, Freed has what it takes to bring honor to his family. He shall not disappoint the Yamamoto lineage!

As a high-ranking member of the Dragon Cavalry, as well a very capable figther, it's a real shame for Rahal to have had to wait so long for a match in the Duelling League. But finally, the long wait has paid off! At last, he'll be able to show his might, and prove his prowess to everyone! 43 seasons gone...it seems like nothing now. Ah, but let's not get carried away now... 'twould be a veritable tragedy, were Rahal to lose on his very first match! His opponent is not all that different than he is; both take their work very seriously, both are fine swordsmen and both are a proudly a Star of Destiny... the only difference? Rahal has a dragon. This fact is already enough to hand him a decisive victory! But alas, the rules state that victory must be acquired the old fashioned way... which shouldn't be too much of a problem either. Hopefully...

Freed vs Rahal. A battle of Suikoden swordsmen who's combined fancount is in the single digits. A pair of fighters so boring that they only assigned one judge to watch the fight. While Dekar may be one of the strongest fighters around, he's also not one to sit around for a boring fight like this.

Much like in Roog's own DL match, the 'judge' sat asleep while the two foes flailed at each other ineffectively. Freed's epic slashes with his katana were matched by Rahal's faint attempts at swordsmanship. Blows that wouldn't make Connie do more than snicker were fired off and blocked and countered.

Edge snorted. He was no swordmaster, he'd never be able to outfight Lenneth Valkyrie or Dias Flac in a straight up swordfight.. but he knew which end of the sword to use. These two clearly didn't. It didn't really matter, though. Freed wasn't his concern. A quick pair of stabs from Edge's trusty catclaws put paid to the south window fighter. Edge kicked Freed out of the way and focused in on Rahal, who eyed Edge with a good deal of anger- and worry.

"Questionable reffing, eh? Snide comments in BtS? Not too smart. The last thing I need is more heat right now." Edge put his claws away and drew out a pair of Katanas, and closed in on Rahal. "I don't think so."

The only person watching the fight was Roog, who lept into the ring at those words. He landed behind Edge and drew his own sword.

"Over my dead body, punk! You won't take down the dragon knights in a straight up fight!"

Rahal lifted his own sword in the air and charged at Edge. "My friend's words may be harsh, but are no less truthful for that. Falena's finest will not be felled by one arrogant prince."

Edge snorted and parried Rahal's charge with ease, knocking the blue clad warrior back with barely an effort. "The finest? Perhaps not. You and your boy-toy? Heh heh.. well, you'll find out." Edge spun on his heels and leaped backwords, swords slashing downward in the space behind him. As expected, they connected solidly with Roog and left two deep gashes in his chest.

---

Freed woke up confused. What had happened? Did he black out? Must have. His sword was buried in Rahal's chest to the hilt. At least a dozen wounds covered Rahal's body. Roog's body outside the ring was in even worse shape. Both fighters were, not to put too fine a point on it, overkilled.

A true berserker rage. Freed's eyes welled up. He had attained true mastery of the sword! And victory! If this is what he did to a respected fighter like Rahal, surely no one in light would stand in his way.
