Season 42, Week 1
Sir Leopold
(Dragon Quest 8)

Dominico's prided pet returns to the arena this season, after falling just short of glory in his last run at a Heavy championship. It's not every day you see a dog competing in the arena (rarer still outside of Light), but then again, it's not every dog that gets to become the vessel for his world's ultimate evil. Lacking the spells and cantrips of Rhapthorne's other bodies, Sir Leopold fights far more simply, trading such tricks for durability and a punishing physical offense. The former is all he needs against Jeremy; the loose cannon of Brionac is known for dishing out the pain, but not taking it. And while a few of his missiles may suffice for taking out children, Sir Leopold is a different sort entirely. All the Great Dane has to do is take a few hits, return a feral grin, and show the rather frail officer what it means to stand against a demon.

As a soldier in good standing in Brionac, Jeremy is used to fighting all sorts of creatures, from the mightiest monsters to a pack of no good punks. But a dog? That's the best Heavy can offer? Leopold cannot make Jeremy lose his turns-and that's a real pity, since he's going to get so many of them! Being both incredibly fast and strong would be enough, but Jeremy wields the power of Inertia Canceling, allowing him to get a massive head start on his opponent. And his powerful Vulcan Cannon will make short work of Leopold's shoddy defense. Jeremy will quite simply rain scorching hot lead death upon the hapless dog, Mowing down a dog is somewhat unorthodox as far as military service goes, but Jeremy is willing to do whatever is required to win, and Heavy will undoubtedly tremble at the slaughterhouse it will soon become.

Such a slaughter, isn't it?

Someone really should have told Jeremy how badly surface-to-air missile batteries work at brutal mauling range. He thought it was a slaughter too.

He was right. Just not how he thought.

On the upside, he now has the great story to tell at bars of the time a missile blew up two inches from him. Good at parties, too.
