Season 41, Week 4
Surt
(Valkyrie Profile)

The giant lord's Duelling League career has seen its share of ups and downs. For a time it looked like this might finally be his season to redeem himself after an ignominious defeat in his home game. But what's this? Surt faces an opponent who immunes fire? You mean to say that...Arc the Lad prospers? He will not accept this. He will not accept this! ...Ahem. All is not lost, of course. Surt's raw physical power is still respectable with Might Reinforce in place, and he can rely on his superior durability and a timely casting of Heal to help see him through. Against a mediocre damage-dealer like Kharg, it should be enough (as long as the kid doesn't have the ill manners to call in an air strike). Of course, no matter what happens, he can take consolation in this fact: he did better than Odin.

Kharg's waltzed his way to victory after victory this season. A giant butterfly? No challenge at all. A robot from a remote future? Nothing can withstand the power of Kharg's swordsmanship. Not even a God, and one of those is next on Kharg's hit list. Surt is a powerful fighter and one who would normally tax even the greatest warriors to their limit, but he has one flaw- his reliance on elemental damage. Against Kharg, whose Hero Bandanna shuts down even the strongest of fire and holy elemental attacks. Without those, Surt looks fierce but can barely damage his half-human foe. A few Windblade Furies should send Surt back to the fiery hell from hence he came, and give Kharg a path to the finals - and a way to partly redeem the benighted name of Arc the Lad 4.

There's a lot to be said on how Kharg can win, but let's just imagine this: The Big Owl crashes into Surt's throne room. Not even Lavos could take a suicidal airship rush and Surt is certainly no Lavos, no?
