Season 40, Week 2
Johnny Garland
(Shadow Hearts: From the New World)

Johnny's in a quandary here. You see, in order to fight Lavos this match, he got warped to the end of a world, which is pretty bloody rad! He wants to take pictures of as much as possible, but there's the small matter of the duel to consider... Well. Lavos may be a world-destroying terror, but he's not too durable despite his power in a fight: a quick Ether Purge to the face... er, chest? ...body part... whatever that is... should easily wipe him out, and Dual React can act to finish him off in the unlikely event it doesn't. And then Johnny can get back to taking photos of this world for his records. A detective must always keep immaculate records of everything he notes, after all!

There are few things in life that can just plain outclass a planet eating monster who can exist in multiple time periods at once. And you know what? Mouthy wannabe detectives from New York aren't one of those things. Even ones with the kind of supreme overkill damage Johnny has still just aren't in the same league as Lavos. But really, nobody who relies on a single shot of insane damage to win their fights is in a good position against the living temporal disaster and his monstrous durability and defensive barriers. And what about Johnny? Does he have any such amazing defensive abilities to stop Crying Heavens from killing him in a single blow? No. No he doesn't.

There are many ways for Lavos to win this match.

His massive armored shell, with it's devastating rains.

His dangerous armored core, capable of opening gates to the fires of hell.

His unarmored core, capable of surrounding his opponent from all sides, a confusing and dangerous opponent.

However, Lavos, tired of such games, simply went straight for his secret weapon.

"Where'd Johnny go?" A puzzled Cloud asked the other judges.

"...I was afraid he'd use that." Magus sighed. "What he did to me was bad enough, but to subject him to the same thing he subjected Schala..." He shook his head in disgust.

Johnny wandered around, confused.

He'd thought he was about to fight Lavos! Where the heck was this? Some island? A little shanty fishing town?

Then a dorky looking kid followed by a pink dog ran by.

Johnny hastily decided to follow him. He at least looked remotely like a PC. He might get something besides babbling about fishing and basic fighting tips out of him...

---

"He made him live through Chrono Cross plot...?" Cloud asked, stunned.

"If you had any doubt about what the cruelest creature ever spawned was, they should be gone now." Magus nodded grimly, as Lavos shrieked triumphantly into the heavens.
