Season 40, Week 1
Endora
(Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen)

Godlike is soon to be crushed under Endora's perfect black boots. The Empress has made quite an impact in her days as a dueller, crushing world-destroyers like Kato with barely a raise of her (perfectly manicured) eyebrow. What can a mere monster hunter like Rolf do to stop wave after wave of unholy magic crashing into him before he can even raise his guard? About as much as that fool King Gran could do when The Black Queen began her dark march towards domination. Roasting Rolf with several high powered spells is without question the easy route to victory. What really presses on Endora's mind is the possibility that the boy might survive...maybe he would be interested in personally serving the Black Queen..

Not to be confused with the Muppet of the same name, Rolf sets himself apart by being a SECRET AGENT MAN! He lives a life of danger and stays a stranger to everyone he meets. Well, except to Nei. And Rudo. And Shir. Okay, but you still get what I mean. He's also a former Heavy champ! What can a man who has everything get for Christmas? A Godlike championship! His first opponent on the road to the prize is the venerable sorceress Endora. Her quinta-casts are rough, but Rolf has the one thing that spells her doom: Megid. He's also tough and durable, which will see him through more than enough of Endora's turns to silence her. Maybe Nei can get a good deal on a new suit for his championship ceremony if she buys early...

With all that raw power at her disposal, it seemed unlikely that Rolf could ever have any chance of defeating the Empress Endora. And yet... as though filled with some contractual need to fail against a plucky young hero with a track record for wrecking Empires, she made two crucial mistakes.

First, she decided that no evil empress worthy of the title would ever fight fair if there was a way around it. And while the idea of bribing the notoriously corrupt DL administrators and simply rigging the actual match was tempting, Rolf also had less scrupulous friends with access to orbital weaponry. Which, all in all, made rigging the fight look like a losing trade. So being an empress, she simply decided to send waves of underlings off to ensure that Rolf would never actually make it to the match.

And here is where she made the critical mistake, violating the Evil Overlord's Guide.

#80 If my weakest troops fail to eliminate a hero, I will send out my best troops instead of wasting time with progressively stronger ones as he gets closer and closer to my fortress.

In this case, replace fortress with arena. Having sent her waves of minions in level appropriate formation of weakest to strongest, it only gave Rolf that much opportunity to become even more powerful. And so, in the unexpectedly fair fight, Endora didn't face the merely endgame Rolf she could easily defeat, but an over leveled Rolf against which she had no chance.
