Season 4, Week 5
Celes Chere
(Final Fantasy VI)

Celes goes into this fight worrying about the same thing that Ramladu, Edgar, and Geno worried about before her; how to deal with Time Gate. Feena will be going first, so Celes just has to hope she survives. Fortunately, she's as well set up as any to do this. With high defences, game-best evasion to both physical and magical attacks, and perhaps most importantly, possible elemental resistances to most of Feena's attacks, Celes has the best chance of living to see a turn of any to face Feena yet. And if she does, she has the battle won. Feena is legendary for being useless after one Time Gate combo, and Celes still has her plethora of nasty status, attack, and defensive magic to fall back on.

Having already dispatched Geno, the messenger from Star Road; Ramladu, the King of Runefaust; and Edgar, a companion of her opponent this week, this feisty adventurer from New Parm has shown that she's a force to be feared coming into this final. And she doesn't intend to stop short of the championship. While her trademark Time Gate combo leaves her utterly bereft of any sort of offence once she's used it, there are so few competitors that can survive it that it makes no difference. And with the defensive powerhouse Ramladu having been unable to withstand this assault, there's almost no chance that Celes will be able to survive it.

Both contestants knew that the outcome of this match hinged on whether or not Celes was allowed to use her Minerva armor, nulling out half of Feena's infamous Time Gate/End of the World/Zap Whip/Zap Whip combo. Hence, instead of a ferocious catfight between two rather scantily-clad women (as half the spectators were hoping for), Heavy Final IV was decided by a long, tedious legal battle at the RPGDL Ruling Court.

It was an epic. The best litigators of the Empire constructed eloquent arguments on the acquirement and exclusivity of the Minerva, while King Edgar of Figaro explained to a half-asleep audience just exactly how its elemental nullifications worked. The lawyers of New Parm, while not as experienced as their Imperial counterparts, called in dozens of hapless FF6 players who testified that they were never able to get a Minerva in FF6, and accused Celes of secretly poisoning previous opponents and being part of a conspiracy to make the RPGDL Arena an Imperial colony (the latter accusations drew gasps of shock from the public). Meanwhile, Justin delivered torturous filibusters that brought the litigation to a halt.

The case, however, came to an abrupt halt when a teary-eyed Feena announced that she was giving up. The case, she explained, was nothing but an enormous waste of time, she shouldn't have won her semifinal match anyways, and she would rather have no Heavy title than one that she won through cheap tricks. At this point Feena broke down and threatened to use her Time Gate combo on anyone who asked her any further questions.

Some people claimed to have seen Feena turn into a plushie after the press conference, and a strange spirit seemed to come out of it. But those allegations were casually dismissed, and Celes was awarded the victory on both fronts. Feena refused to talk about the case until her dying days, although no one seemed to think that unusual.

As has beeen noted before, Celes is an expert at taking a hit and dodging. However, when you're frozen in time, it's hard to dodge.
