Season 38, Week 2
Vandesdelca Musto Fende
(Tales of the Abyss)

Commandant Van Grants. The name exudes an air of respect, dedication and power. As the only one in existence who could hold the power of Lorelei in check with sheer will, there's quite a bit unusual about him. Calm and cool, collected and level-headed, and with the power of the Seventh Fonon bursting inside of him, Van is more than capable of holding his own in Godlike. To further the spread of his ideals and dedication towards his cause, Van's arrival in Godlike will become a battlefield not unlike Hod of years ago. With devastating sword techniques such as Lightning Tiger Blade, Guardian Frost or the aptly named Radiant Dragon, Van can slaughter many opponents with a single deft blow. With mastery over such powerful fonic artes as Infernal Prison, Holy Lance and Judgment, not even the toughest of opponents can last long. While Elc's a tougher body to break than many Godlikes can be, his renowned Invincible spell won't secure a win. Van's easily capable of weathering whatever offense Elc can muster against him while Elc loses the energy necessary to keep his barrier up. Once the barrier is down, Van's full offense can be brought to bear. Not even the acclaimed Pyromancer can withstand a strike of Imperial Slaughter, Celestial Elegy, or the dreaded Ancient Requiem. The will of Van Grants is absolute, and Godlike will learn to respect it - or die.

The one and only Godhunter is back for some more fun in the DL arena. After years of Arc's failure in Godlike, Elc is out to show what a competent member of his cast can do by taking down some marks. The first mark on the list is the freshly ranked Vandesdelca. While Van may be the man with the (incredibly lame) plan, capable of putting on mountains of hurt in the form of Mystic Artes, he won't be able to put up much of a fight at all against Elc. The Hunter's signature move, Invincible, will leave Van envious of Jogurt's ability to deal damage. As an added bonus for the Flame Master, all of Van's worthwhile attacks with the fancy names will be halved by his Magic Canceller... assuming he can manage to do any damage at all. Throw in Elc's great natural durability, and even Van's Mystic Arte's won't manage to score a kill against this pyromancer. To make matters worse for the Commandant, Elc can rob huge portions of Van's HP while fully healing himself in the process through the wicked power of Divide. Nail on the coffin? Van relies on taking damage before he can start using any of his worthwhile moves and attacks. Elc can just buff himself before Van gets going and then take him out while utterly Invincible. Goatee man can talk big and use all the flashy moves he wants to try; the clone-happy freak is going down hard this match. Welcome to the DL, Van - now get out of Elc's way!

"Imperial Slaughter!"
"Celestial Elegy!"
"Anicent Requiem!"

Nothing. Dorian General Grants's best attacks bounced off Elc with zero effect.

What can stop a man who doesn't take damage, even from attacks that shatter the very ground?

As proven by Van's deseperate attempts to fend off Elc, nothing.

Van tore apart the arena. The crowd itself fled in terror with what the leader of the God Generals had done. Only one person remained, and he was utterly unruffled.

When it was all said and done, it wasn't an MA or one of Van's deadly combos that won the battle. It was one man's immunity to damage and refusal to give up.

Sometimes it isn't a question of who's the stronger person, but who's the most prepared.

So Elc won the fight. Not with any fancy skill, but with a sword thrust to the gut.

Not the start Van wanted to his DL career.
