Season 38, Week 1
Palom
(Final Fantasy IV)

]There comes a time in a boy's life when he has to step up and prove exactly what he can do. Palom's masterful handling of Light last season showed that the Black Wizard has the skills to reach Middle with ease. However, can he stay in his new division? This week's a good test of that. Facing off against an immortal goddess like Silmeria is something to give even the bratty Palom a pause for consideration. In spite of the nasty surprise of facing off against a god in Middle, though, he's surprisingly well equipped to take down the Valkyrie. Blocking both her stone and silence statuses, she's left with... not much to do in her vain attempt to stop the last Light champion. One use of any of Palom's half dozen fatal statuses should put Silmeria down for good, proving once again that this small little mage is among the deadliest wielders of Black Magic around. Plus, he can rub his victory in Porom's stupid face.

V

S

Goddess of Fate, sister to Lenneth and Hrist. You'd expect such a fighter to be a higher division than Middle. Silmeria Valkyrie herself was stunned to learn she'd be two whole divisions below her sister Lenneth and even a division below the All-Father. But no matter. A little battle is just the thing Silmeria needs to shake the rust off - after all, she only appears in combat at the very end of Alicia's journey to fight Odin and other assorted villians. Her first opponent, however, is... a mere child? How utterly pathetic. While Silmeria would loathe to murder a child (even a foulmouthed brat like Palom), it's just what she'll have to do to get closer to her sisters. If he somehow resists her reliable status, a little bowwork should handle the Mysidian twin just fine. The prodigy wizard may be known for his incredible magic, but he's also equally known for how poorly he fares against strong attacks like Silmeria's combos.

Mathias
A mage once turned to stone against a goddess confined to a girl's body? Come on. All it takes is a shot of crystal and Palom will be having terrible flashbacks from when he was a statue.

Palom: 28
Silmeria Valkyrie: 38
