Season 37, Week 2
Raven
(Fire Emblem: The Blazing Sword)

The swordsman formerly known as Raymond Cornwell has spent nearly three years away from the arena. As one out of many in the original Fire Emblem charge into the RPGDL, it's easy to forget that the hard-eyed mercenary is in fact one of the most powerful warriors in all of Elibe. Skilled with both swords and axes, Raven is more than a match for the Dragoon he faces this week. Kain Highwind had to claw his way out of Light, and as a pure fighter, he's even more in Raven's shadow than he was in Cecil's. Kain is simply outclassed on every single front - speed, evade, and especially power. With Hand Axes to counter Kain's ranged jump attacks, and more powerful Silver weapons to bash through his armour at melee, Raven has a tool for every situation in this fight, leaving little doubt that this decorated hero will once again put on an impressive display in Middle.

Gracefully soaring through the sky! Having exciting adventures! It's Kaaaaaaaiiiiiiiin! The troubled Dragoon of Baron is finally back in Middle, his original division, after a glorious run through Light, silencing naysayers and jealous slithers! But he can't celebrate his brilliant achievements just yet, for this match has an eerie shade of deja-vu. He faces a swordsman with possibly an even more tragic past, laden with more mental issues than the ones Kain faced himself - the exact same kind of foe that dropped him down to the Light downgrade pool so painfully over twenty seasons ago. Thus, Kain has a fierce test to undergo against the vicious mercenary Raven. This battle with the former noble turned mercenary will be a true showcase of Kain's lance and mettle. Will history repeat itself? Or will Kain finally best fate?

Xeroma
You know, Kain really did try to beat Raven with a spear. He really did. But he forgot one very important detail.

As he landed, Raven shoved his axe into Kain's face really hard. You can guess where THAT went.

Raven: 55
Kain Highwind: 25

In Fire Emblem, the best defense is not getting hit. Ever. The weapon triangles reinforce this. Almost no one can successfully tough out a fight whilst taking damage; the best tanks avoid a lot of hits. In Fire Emblem, evade is absurdly important.

Kain's Jumps don't miss.

Ever.

Not once.

And, while he's in the air, Kain is invincible. Untouchable. Immune even to plot attacks that are supposed to immobilize the whole party so they can be heroically saved by damsels in improbable green outfits.

Raven can use the Weapon Triangle against Kain, but Kain can use his one powerful trick to land endless attacks with perfect accuracy on Raven, and Raven doesn't have the ability to press Kain's big weakness against magic attacks.

Raven has the choice of potentially countering Kain's jumps using Hand Axes or actually hurting Kain with Silver weapons whilst he's on the ground. Raven can't do both.

Raven: *Attacks Kain with axes*

Kain: *Jumps, becomes temporarily invincible, and lands a devastatingly powerful hit on Raven with a zero percent chance of missing.*
