Season 37, Week 2
Hiro
(Lunar 2: Eternal Blue)

Many would tremble in fear to face Shu, but not Hiro. There are several rules that stand in his favor. First of all, Hiro is a main character - an appropriately named main character at that. That means it's his job to dispatch wave after wave of ninja. Second, he's fighting for love. This makes him nigh invulnerable. Third, he's friends with dragons. That ALWAYS means trouble for ninja. Put all that together and you've got a contender that would make Lo Pan tremble, and not just because of his deadly Triple Sword, or his powerful wind and healing techs. Shu has already learned all he needs to know about being generic. He's from Arc the Lad, after all. Now, being the generic ninja he is, he will learn defeat at the hands of Hiro.

Cliches are for the weak. No one knows this better than Shu. Sure, he's a ninja, but you wouldn't know it by his fighting style. Swords? Shurikens? Hah! Shu knows how to kill things: tons of firepower! His time bomb will cut Hiro's HP in half if it goes off, and he can use his shotgun to finish him off from there. Ninjas aren't supposed to be good at taking damage? No one told Shu, as he takes physical hits better than nearly anyone in his cast. He does, on the other hand, know which cliches to follow. Hiro may be frighteningly fast, but Shu's as quick as any ninja you've ever met. It may usually be the case that main characters are superior to ninjas, but luckily for Shu, that's another cliche that he's never let stand in his way.

"Look, I'm sorry. I promise I'll pay you back!" Shu's voice was pleading, desperate, as he faced Shu.

Shu Shirakawa was fuming with rage. "Re... repay me. Yes. Because you can really manage that after having LOST with my GRANZON!?!?"

"Hey, the controls were tough. Plus, how was I supposed to know he'd bring in the Colossal Blade and be able to use Triple Sword with it?!?"

"You are hereby banished from the ranks of the Shu Foundation!" Shu bellowed. "Never again are you allowed to use my machine! That teaches me to code everything to my name..."

Hiro just shrugged, big sword in both hands, and lifted it a teeny bit so the Dygenguard could pick it up. It was going to take him a lot of time to get over the fangirls impressed with his use of the sword, but hey. If one comically cliche'd amnesiac hero could use the blade, a slightly less cliche'd Hiro could do so as well, no?

A classic clash.

Swords against guns.

The cliche is told time and time again, a flow of history perhaps undeniably strong, a incredible force that will never be placated, willing us to play out this scenario, over and over.

A foolish, endless battle with no hope of victory, a one-sided brawl that will never play it's self out.

A sad, pitiful competition.

But what if someone could break the chains of it?

"...We're sorry, Shu. You're disqualified." Edea called out.

"But-" "You have to use your own resources in this match. You can't steal from other people, or other games, in this contest." Edea shook her head. "No."

"...But I am The Man with The Machine Gun!" Shu yelled, frustrated. "My song should have won against his pitiful theme!"

"...be glad you aren't the original." Edea called back, shaking her head.

Perhaps some struggles are destined.

But the smart person finds the least painful and most stylish way to lose.

And in the end, while that's not all that matters, sometimes it's all you get.

Hiro is a pretty respectable guy. A hero with a nice sense of humor, good communication skills, an appropriate level of confidence, and a cute girlfriend with mysterious powers. Shu being a Ninja isn't nearly enough to match that. Ninjas don't really have the experience to handle badass heroes.

Well, typically. Shu however does have experience in this arena. Having raised his own heroic youth to be at least as good as Hiro, he knows exactly how to deal with them. Chores. A few stealthy scribbles on Hiro's calendar let Shu sit back and enjoy the day instead of fight for his life, and sent Hiro on a fetchquest for the right brand of cleaner...
