These are two of the most mocked and ridiculed groups of characters in the RPGDL, forever held in a special level of contempt. After three seasons of toiling away in the League's lowest ranks, though, one of them will finally get a moment in the sun.

Team FF8 includes all six permanent playables, all reduced to only their Fight commands and occasional Limits as per RPGDL restrictions. Even with six of them, they're still not much - but if they manage to get a limit, they could cause a world of pain for their opposition. Absolutely sick damage (Squall and Zell), healing and status (Quistis), and even - if they're lucky enough - a guaranteed end of the match in their favor (Selphie) are but the start of their abilities. But that all depends on whether they'll be just close enough to death to trigger all that.

On the other hand, Team VP Mages (comprised of the six mages without boss forms), will have to rely on cunning calculation to win. Without Fairy Rings or Wait Reaction to make their long charge times more bearable, and with their energy gauge emptying at the end of every turn, they'll have to carefully stagger their spells so that one of them can pull off a quadracast for semi-respectable damage. One thing they do have, though, is healing in spades - Jelanda, Lorenta, and Shiho all have Heal, and the latter two can revive with Invoke Feather. With careful management, they could pick off their opposition one by one, as team FF8 has no reliable resurrection.

No matter how you scale the FF8 charactesr, the VP mages STILL have something FF8 characters do not:
Magic.
What is magic? In RPGs, it holds us, it sees us, it keeps the Universe together. You must embrace it.
You'll always here in RPGs how Magic is an exciting and deadly force. Such examples of this are FF6 how Terra's magic ability is special, or how Rune in PS4 is special cause he can use True Magic, among other things.
So what does FF8 Have? A gun, a gun/sword, fists, a Nunchaku, a whip, and a wierd flying thing, a dog to go with the wierd flying thing. Well, as far as I know, you never here about the Mystical Whip of Holyness, or the Fists of Yore!

And then there's the fact that the following Equasion is also applied:
FF8 Character alone = Sucks
FF8 Characters as a Team = Still sucks
VP Mages alone = Sucks even more than FF8 alone
VP Mages as a Team = Quite a strangely powerful force that you don't wanna fight unless your Worker 8 or Chris Lightfellow

Doesn't Mystina have RPGDL legal Great Magic, provided she builds up the energy? On a TEAM she can get that energy, yeah? And then it's "You must desire respite from thy empty existance. Thou shalt HAVE it" and so forth.
