Season 35, Week 2
Cloud Strife
(Final Fantasy VII)

Fans of large hair and larger swords rejoice, your posterboy has at long last returned to the DL. After a staggering twenty-eight season hiatus, this fan-favorite SOLDIER prepares to welcome a fresh face into the fold. Alicia is a Valkyrie with a lot going for her, but these things won't help to balance out her rookie nature in a DL setting. As a seasoned SOLDIER, Cloud possesses MUCH more than the prerequesite giant sword. He's got massively powerful limit techniques, materia and high overall stats to put him at that elite level that few normal people reach (if Cloud could be called normal, which is stretching it). These combined with the entire arena chanting his name should be quite intimidating for the rookie who, despite being a worthy opponent, is about to recieve one of the harshest welcomes to the arena in DL history.

The mentally unstable Princess of Dipan follows in her father's footsteps, making her arrival in the RPGDL Heavy division amidst great volumes of fanfare. For her first challenge in the arena, Alicia's going in with a bang - the cross-dressing hero of Final Fantasy Seven, Cloud Strife, will make his own long-awaited return to the arena, just in time to fall to the Princess' blade! Alicia's been through tougher fights before - Cloud may be strong, fast, and resilient, but he lacks the ability to deal with Alicia's Heal spell, which will be his downfall. Constant healing combined with a few careful strokes of her blade will prove to be more than enough to easily handle the overcompensating swordsman. The Princess shall soon make her way to the top, and prove to her daddy that she really is the daughter of Barbarossa, the Sleeping Hero!

This match can be viewed with a simple formula. See, the winner of the match is often the one who doesn't die.

Well, there's a funny thing about that; no matter the outcome, Alicia will always be dead. Even if she wins, she's still dead. When the judges realized that 5 minutes before the match began, Alicia got disqualified instantly. Alicia has been seen ever since trying to work out that technicality to change the wording in such a way that the undead don't lose instantly. It certainly doesn't play well for the undead...

I mean, how long did it take Brahms to get them to finally make an exception for him?

Cloud's breezy swordsmanship was unparalleled, this match.

Like a gale, he blew through Alicia's defenses and hailed cut after cut on her windswept brow.

Alicia, of course, was not going to be blown away so easily, though. Her Sky-High Edge sliced Cloud from the air, assalting him and pouring him from the sky like a torrent. Yes, Alicia would neither be fogged nor snowed this match.

But Cloud, despite his cirrus injuries, never-the-less managed, through the haze of pain, to give the match one Finishing Touch, proving yet again that any match, no matter how close, can be a blow-out.

The heavens, Cloud's witness, stood mute to his victory.

Beautiful Fight, but Cloud is the best! With his big sword and his speed he will fight all of the World. And he will use his Materias, and summon Ifrit or another.

And for the end, use your best limit!

Cloud will steal heavy without a problem, with mastered cure materia, and knowing omnislash and Knights of the Round his victories will be very cheap.

Browbeat
A spiky-haired young swordsman vs. A timid young princess... Cloud's advantages lie with his enormous sword (pried from his friend's cold dead hands) and the power of ambiguous motive. Alicia's strengths(?) Are divine possession by a strong-willed Valkyrie and deep-rooted ignorance of the world around her...

In this world of murky motives and questionable reality of fighting prowess (only in RPG's are these things possible...), who will triumph?

Favoritism aside, match to the Valkyrie-errant!

...Ah, seeing Cloud Strife slashed into bloody ribbons is always a welcome sight.
