"...?"

"Come on. You're the one who wants the contract against Necron? One question. Why?"

"..."

"Your merry band of incompetents couldn't take down Necron when it was fifty against one. What makes you think I'm stupid enough to challenge him with a few members of SeeD?"

"...!"

"Ugh. Yes, Ultimecia was my kill. What about it?"

"..."

"...Whatever. Sign the contract and prepare to pay. Serge, eh? I'll check your references first, and then, if your money's good, I'll deal with your problem."

"What!? Squall, you could get hurt! Necron destroyed an entire Chrono Cross army!"

"Rinoa, shush. I know what I'm doing. Zell and Irvine, you're with me. Quistis and Selphie, I need you to pilot the Rangarok and position us over Necron. He's been hiding in some alternate plane ever since the league gave him the boot."

"Right! I'll crush 'im with my fists!"

"He'll go down as soon before he even sees me. Let's roll."

.."On second thought, Quistis and Selphie are with me. You two wait on the ship with Rinoa."

"..Aww."

"If we're done complaining...? Thought so. This is a big contract, and a chance to prove ourselves after a...recent defeat. The SeeDs will prove themselves today by doing what an entire army couldn't do: end Necron!"

Rangarok, 6/2, 7:00 AM

Rinoa looked on in horror as Squall, Quistis, and Selphie ran off to do battle with Necron. "He can't face such a horrible foe without me. I have to go help!" she said to herself. And before Zell and Irvine could say as much as a word, Rinoa ran off after her lover, determined to help him however she could.

  • SeeD takes down Necron
  • Necron crushes Squall and company
  • Rinoa manages to get in trouble before she reaches the battleground, and Squall calls off the attack to save her

SeeD Report Evaluation:

Top 10 Mistakes Squall made on his attack on Necron
10) Taking both Selphie and Quistis, leaving Irvine, Zell AND Rinoa controlling the ship
9) Taking more than one person against Necron. Due to the way Necron works, the less people, the better.
8) Leaving Rinoa unattended
7) Taking two support members when he could really use some extra offense
6) Forgetting to check his junctions
5) Forgetting that all the good junctions were left on Zell and Irvine and he didn't switch them to Quistis or Selphie
4) Still urging to fight after finding out that his party had nothing but attack and limit.
3) Skipping the news that morning and did not read about how Bowser was known to be on the prowl
2) Leaving Rinoa unattended when Bowser was on the prowl
1) Leaving Rinoa unattended and not knowing where Bowser's castle is.

I wouldn't be surprised if Squall and co. end up finding Brahm's castle instead >_>.

Squall: 26
Necron: 29
Rinoa fails: 45

In the DL, Final Fantasy 8 PCs are scewed beyond belief. Stuck with only fight commands and ridiculously low HP limits, they often fail before even the weakest of Light duelers.

OUTSIDE the DL, however... they can immune any status and element, can use their overpowered limits at will, and can raise any stat they want to insane levels. Not to mention the simple strategy of Hero spamming.

But there is one rule that transcends the DL, the FF8 game, and everything involved... Rinoa fails.

Against all odds, she managed to screw the team by running into the other FF9 boss of total doom: Ozma.

When Squall was about to unleash a finishing Lionheart on Necron (with holy junctioned to his elemental attack, no less), he heard the massive screach of a Doomsday off in the distance and the terrified scream of Rinoa.

So Squall ended up using his Lionheart finisher on Ozma, while Necron used the time wisely to get his ass out of there (the question of whether Necron has a rear-end is still being debated, but anyway). Scratch up another FF8 humiliation to the girl who just won't shut up.

Its a damn shame that Ozma's Doomsday didn't even kill her. She managed to get off an Invincible Moon somehow. The other FF8 rule that transcends everything is that no matter how much the people may wish it, Rinoa avoids death. Every. Single. Time.

Pity.

Rinoa gets shoes muddy, Squall calls off the attack and angsts for three years over this happening.

Sure Necron defeated the whole Chrono Cross army, but then again there not the toughest RPG charicters in the bunch, while in contrast, any Final Fantasy VIII charicter could easily defeat him alone, with only 65,000 HP And with Lionheart and Pulse ammo doing more then that per use that's it for Necron.
