Season 25, Week 1
Celes Chere
(Final Fantasy VI)

It's a clash of swordfighters this week as Magitek General Celes takes on Guardian Angel Citan, and the bombshell soldier is ready to prove her disbelievers once more with a win in Godlike. After all, Citan is little different from other element-reliant foes felled by Celes. What's the point of blisteringly fast sword-swipes when they're shrugged off by Celes' terrific armor? Also, Celes' bloody accurate Imp, Muddle, or Berserk statuses will all leave Citan an equally inept doc for Celes to pick off. If all else fails, Vanish will shut down Citan's offense for good.

Once again, the good doctor makes his rounds in the Duelling League. The first foe in his path is the ex-Imperial general Celes, who presents an unusual challenge. While her Vanish spell means a significant obstacle for the sword-slinger, deadlier still are her assortment of mind-addling statuses. Indeed, Berserk and Muddle are significant blocks for any foe, but if anyone has the mental fortitude to withstand such deadly assaults, it's the doc. One miss and Celes will down her guard for a few precious seconds; that's all it takes. The odds are against him, but since when has that stopped Citan Uzuki before?

Citan really doesn't have that many choices here. He has three options:

Option 1) Hit Celes with a 7AP Deathblow, which hurts, but doesn't kill the ex-general. She then casts Berserk, and on the following turn, shuts him out with Vanish. Pain follows.

Option 2) Cast Haste. He then gets Berserked by Celes and at most hits her with two Fierce attacks before she casts Vanish. Pain follows.

Option 3) Forfeit the match and offer to take her out to dinner instead. Get hit by Ice 3 for asking before having Locke stab him in the back with the Valiant Knife.

Considering option 3 is probably his least painful choice here, he should probably prepare his will, a body bag and put on his best looking suit. Hey, at least he dies handsome.

Celes Chere: 90
Citan Uzuki (Hyuga Ricdeau): 41

The Great Nevareh
Two magic-wielding sword-swingers? This won't be pretty.

By most accounts, Celes can out-last Citan in several painful ways. She's got potent cure magic with her, plenty of magic points, and those deadly status-inducing spells which, in a one-on-one duel, is enough to undo anyone. Celes can ALSO nullify Citan's own magic with her absurdly broken Runic Sword technique.

However, none of this matters. The fight itself REALLY hinges on Citan knowing the precise WEAKNESSES of Vanish- the ridiculous (and some say technically impossible) weakness to magic. The problem with Vanish is that it's part of the most potent combo in all of Celes' game- Vanish/Doom, which kills anything that can be hit with the first spell... even the final boss. So if he smuggles some instant-kill item in with him, the moment Celes throws up Vanish, she's dead. Sure, it would disqualify Citan since he sort of cheated, but he'd still have won the fight.
