Season 24, Week 1
Lenneth Valkyrie
(Valkyrie Profile Series)

It has been a long time, Lenneth. The Goddess of Destiny takes up her Glance Reviver, summons the power of creation, and joins the fray of the arena once again, this time ready to claim a championship. Her opponent, the legendary Sword Magess Anastasia Valeria, won't pose much of a threat. She can't won't survive the magnificent blows of Nibelung Valesti. Granted, Lenneth will take a short while for her to build up to her trademark divine assault, but in the meantime the Valkyrie can easily survive an Impulse. It has been a long time indeed, and the Valkyrie will not waste this latest chance to shine.

The Sword Saint returns in the arena, and she faces a warrior very much like herself. Both swordswomen were once mortal, but became the saviours of their respective worlds. Both wield legendary blades forged to destroy beings of great power. Both have blue hair. Both even have the same tactic in battle revolving around the use of their one devastating energy-blade technique! And there Ana has the advantage. While Lenneth needs to charge up Nibelung Valesti with a few physicals, Anastasia can immediately fire off an Impulse the moment she gets a turn. Looks like another victory for the Sword Magess.

Each swordswoman entered the arena, looking somewhere well beyond the cheering crowds of other duellers, friends, assorted perverts.
Anastasia spoke first. "It's funny. Maybe it's fate."
Lenneth shifted a little, defensive. "What do you mean?"
Anastasia was motionless. "Have you ever heard of a Doppelgänger?"
Puzzled, the Valkyrie quoted. "The night is still, the streets are quiet.
In this house lived my Love...
She has left this city long ago,
yet her house is still standing here.
There I also see a man, standing and staring into the heavens...
Wringing his hands in violent grief. I shudder when I behold his face...
The moon reveals to me my own likeness.
You Doppelgänger, you pale companion!
Why do you mimic my anguish that tormented me at this place for so many nights in the past?"
Anastasia nodded. "Do you understand? It would be a pity to draw out a battle with someone who might be a reflection in the mirror."
Lenneth set herself, ready for battle. "A single pass, then? The first to fall shall admit defeat?"
The sword magess raised the Argethlam. "Agreed." She smiled a bit. "Besides, a longer battle might invite... disaster."
It lasted but a second. One instant, the two chatted like old friend. The next, blades locked, the flash of steel and dust of the floor obscuring everything. A moment later, Anastasia fell, and Lenneth sheathed her sword.
"I have won this round. We will have to face one another again in better circumstances, Anastasia."
Quickly exiting the arena before the crowd could realize it was over, Anastasia thought to herself "we must indeed, Lenneth. We must indeed."
