And A Child Shall Lead Them

~DomaDragoon

"Omni Dragon is dead... again."

Firkraag's report came as no surprise to the three surviving members of the Draconic Council. They had warned Omni that provoking the dragon slayers he had recruited to battle for his own entertainment would be a bad idea. While he had managed to escape the peril when it had first began, Josh Kain had always kept close tabs on the situation and waited for a chance to act. The assault, led by Lloyd, had been a slaughter.

"Thank you for your report, Firkraag," said the Divine Dragon, dismissing him before turning back to the other members. "So, what do we do now?"

"About the hunters? Nothing, for now," said Tiamat. "They will receive their comeuppance soon."

"I believe he was referring to the vacancy on the council," pointed out Bahamut.

"Indeed. Shall we go over the usual nominees?"

"Lombardia can't do it. He's off testing his new flight boosters, and he won't be back before the rite to resurrect Omni will be done," said Tiamat.

"Fou-Lu has other commitments as well," said the Divine Dragon.

"Dunkelzahn..." began Bahamut, but the very dark glares his co-conspirators gave him stopped him cold.

One after one, the experienced nominees were vetoed by the three, whether through incompetence, 'convenient absence', or a former wrong clouding their judgement. Finally, the list ran dry, leaving Bahamut no other choice than to make his move.

"You know, we may have been going about this the wrong way. It may be time for some of our less experienced brood to take some responsibility in the welfare of our race."

"You're not suggesting that we let one of those mongrel half-breed Ryus..." started Tiamat.

"You really must control your prejudices," said Bahamut.

"Prejudices?! Have you forgotten all the indignities you've suffered at the apes' hands?"

"Voluntarily! It's for the greater good, unlike your siding with the forces of darkness and chaos!"

"That's enough!" roared the Divine Dragon, lumbering between the two fighting foes. "Continue, Bahamut."

"There are a few Dragonian children who have begun to explore their heritage. I believe that it would be instructive to perhaps promote one of them until the rite can be completed. If nothing else, it should give the other young ones incentive."

"Very well. Send notice that they will undergo the Trial," said the Divine Dragon.

Both Bleu and Draggy have been informed that they are being tested by the Draconic Council, for reasons unknown. Their task is to accumulate as much wealth as possible within the span of one week, by any means necessary. The dragon who acquires the largest hoard of valuables, not the most expensive, shall be deemed the victor.

  • Bleu takes home the gold
  • Draggy scrapes together a win

Let's review.

Bleu is a naive dragon who hasn't been out in the world much.

Draggy is a naive dragon who hasn't been out in the world much.

Bleu has a large force of friends willing to help him gather treasure.

Draggy also has a large amount of friends willing to help him gather treasure.

Both sides also have people on them willing to sabotage the other.

And both sides, as it turns out, have people smart enough to realize that the other side is the only ones who'd bother.

And this is how the war between the Shining Force and Chrono Cross' cast started, a bloody massacre that lasted days and cost dozens of lives.

Ultimately, after a large amount of fruitless bloodshed, one thing became sadly clear.

Chrono Cross' cast needed actual amounts of equipment.

The Shining Force somehow gets by with just weapons.

So, in the end, Bleu ended up with more cash since his friends didn't eat it all up arming themselves, Draggy's side eventually won the war and captured Bleu, but not until after the test was over, and most of the casts of Chrono Cross and Shining Force were killed.

Everyone wins.

Well, except Flammie.

He was so angry when no one considered him.

Have you ever seen an angry, fuzzy, feathered, ridiculously cute dragon assault a draconic counsel?

Well, it isn't pretty. Suffice it to say that Bahamut's stuck in a cave wall, Tiamat's currently invoking dark rites to get his head out of the ninety-degree twist, and the Divine Dragon's ticked off that he's dead yet again.

Bleu: 20
Draggy: 17
