Season 22, Week 2
Lezard Valeth
(Valkyrie Profile Series)

The mad magician Lezard is back in the arena once more, and his thrist for power and knowledge is greater than ever. All he wants is a little respect from his fellow duellers, and there’s no way to get it but to fight and win! Lezard’s first opponent is Opera, an ugly three-eyed creature who can’t even compare to the beauty of his goddess. Oh, how disgusting such a creature is! Anyways, all Lezard has to do is apply a little bit of his Great Magics to the Tetragene woman's face and she’ll be toast! The wonders of modern technology can’t hold a candle to the sorcery of Mr. Valeth, and he’ll prove it in the arena.

As one of the few duellers to earn a double downgrade over the course of the duelling league's history, Opera finds herself in rather interesting company. The few who have suffered from these such an indignity are best known for crushing the division they finally landed in, and Opera's goals are no different. @ on one can pummel even the toughest of lights into submission, let alone the likes of Lezard, and her healing will handle what little damage he can dish out. And even if the Flenceberg dropout somehow withstands Opera's attack.. well, who's ever heard of someone recovering from a -triple- downgrade?

"Hark, it is an omen! Heard the roar of the ashen depths! Feel the winds of ruination! My name is Lezard Valeth! If you know me, stand aside! If you do not know me, you will be made to know me! Bow before my name and yield!"

Such words were shouted from one end of heaven to another, the skies of Expel quaking with the might of Lezard's magic! From Arlia to Lacour, the citizens wondered if the Sorcery Globe had returned to again destroy Expel!

"Now, if you trust that your eternal bonds may be broken, then let my words be as a vengeful blade apon you! Let the great Levantine render you into nothingness!"

A gigantic blade, black and with hideous red runes, begins to form over Lezard! What foul manner of sorcery is this?! The entire world of Expel is being brought to it's knees for one divine magic?!

"As the harm...aaaah! No, I will not accept this...aaaah!"

Arcane gestures and soaring words of power interrupted, Lezard faded away fromt he arena of Expel in a stream of glittering light. The Ragnarok Blade vanished from this world, the quivering of the earth ceased. Smiling viciously and lowering her gun, Opera smiled. "All I have to say is...bang, you're dead."

Lezard Valeth: 26
Opera Vectra: 33

Lezard just can't get a break, can he? Ah well. Knowing him, he'll probably just create a homunculus in Opera's image and take his frustrations out on it instead. Better luck next time, nerdcromancer.

This duel isn't necessarily strange in itself, but I kind of expected Lezard Valeth, who is at least 20% of the reason why Lenneth Valkyrie is so powerful, and Opera Vectra, who packed a SERIOUS punch in combat just by whapping stuff with her gun, to be in higher divisions than Light. Lezard, plot-and-combat wise is at least a Middle (for that matter, so is Mystina. Mages are the huge damagers in Valkyrie Profile, what with Great Magic and all. Without it I guess they're kind of screwed, though), and Opera rivals Ashton for usefulness and definitely outclasses most of the cast.

Still, I guess I have to work with what I'm given.

Lezard Valeth is the strongest starter you find- especially since you can only get him in Hard mode and in Hard mode everyone starts at level 1 BUT the Seraphic Gate characters. He manages to flummox Hrist Valkyrie, he causes the demise of Lorenta and her husband for kicks, and he's probably the most powerful mage in the Valkyrie Profile universe- which isn't saying much if you don't allow for Great Magic.

Though if he's fighting as a boss and NOT as a character, then he automatically gets Great Magic, tons more hit points, and he doesn't have the same acting limits that Valkyrie Profile characters get in that he can cast a spell every turn.

If it's Boss Lezard Valeth versus Opera Vectra, then there's no contest. He wins because he can constantly shower Celestial Star down on her, which she can't avoid since it effectively hits the whole screen, and she'll have trouble absorbing the damage since VP stats tend to be on different orders of magnitude than those of Star Ocean.

If Lezard Valeth the PC fights Opera Vectra, then Lezard loses all of his advantages and the fight becomes pretty much equal, maybe with an advantage to Opera since she's pretty fast and her abilities are a lot more varied. Plus her damage scream is REALLY scary.

Still, I have to put my money on Lezard since he has his formidable boss form and, with that, he really doesn't belong in Light.
