Vampire Lore

~superaielman

Zero for three. Three miserable failures in a row for Brahms, and not so much as a single taste of victory in his years at the DL. After his stinging loss to Rashidi, he had searched the records, and found only one other vampire who had faced as much suffering as him. "Dracula, eh ... how did he solve his problems? 'Dracula's challenge...' sounds interesting..." And thus, Brahms searched the annals of the League, and read, and read. "Yes. This could be most amusing!"

Weeks later...

At the crossroads of the arena's marketplace, a sign was staked to the pole in the middle of the thoroughway.

"VAMPIRE HUNTERS WANTED. LORD BRAHMS DECLARES OPEN CHALLENGE!" The rest was in smaller text. "For one night only, the lord of all vampires opens his castle to any challengers. The reward is riches beyond your wildest dreams, or the chance to slay one of the world's greatest vampires. The prize for failure, of course, is death. Do you have what it takes? Bring a partner..."

Kahn grinned. "Yes, a vampire to kill. I haven't had a challenge like this since Neclord was felled, . I just need to find a fellow warrior, another one devoted to battle - hey!" He had just bumped into a large, grinning man, who Kahn instantly knew.

"KAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNN!"

The two men embraced. "Yeah, you got robbed by that damn wizard? Tough break." Pausing to let his tanned counterpart nod in response, Kahn the vampire hunter smiled. "Yeah, it'll just be one night of fun. How about we get ready to show what the power of Kahn can do?"

Fujin eyed the poster with her one good eye, and her face broke into a smile. "SEIFER, WE MUST GO HERE. CHALLENGE AWAITS. SAI IS READY." Seifer slashed the air with Hyperion, and matched Fujin's grin. "Yeah! A vampire can't stand against modern fighters like us! Let's go teach those idiots a lesson."

"That vile defiler of souls still exists? As one of the three sisters of fate, my job is to purge such filth from the universe, no matter how weak my condition! I know where he lies ... it's just a question of striking him down." Hrist soared towards Brahms's castle, not noticing a chuckling Dryst tailing her. "Heh heh heh. That vampire's throne would look perfect in my castle. Just have to follow her to find it."

A minor vampire stood at Brahms's feet. "Three teams have taken the bait, my lord. One for each defeat you so unfairly faced in the arena. As per your request, we contacted the one you specifically requested to face. The ... outside contractor is standing outside the castle, waiting for the word." Once again, Brahms nodded and quickly made his way to outer wall of his castle.

"Richter, of the Belmont clan. Your name preceeds you." Richter's face was a focused mask of hate. "You wish to kill me, eh? You'll have your chance. Just enter my castle tonight, and try to reach me in time. You'll not find me as easy a prey as that foolish Count!"

With sunset falling on the lands, Brahms' castle appears. The teams are already making their way inside ... what will happen?

  • The combined power of Kahn is too much for even the lord of vampires to handle
  • Seifer and Fujin reach the throne room and show Brahms the power of modern weaponry
  • With Hrist showing him the way, Dryst finds Brahms's chamber and teaches him a painful lesson about the true power of darkness
  • Richter reaches Brahms first and snuffs out his unlife with ease
  • None escape Brahms' castle alive

There are a number of important factors that one must consider in a bonus match that aren't present in the arena. Perhaps the most important is plot power, but alternate forms, strictly considered illegal for duelling purposes, are a close second. While in the arena, Brahms may be a three-time loser, but in his castle, he is a brutal warrior, strong enough to do battle with the Iseria Queen herself. Even if, in desperation, they could set aside their differences and fight for their own survival, the vampire hunters don't have a prayer.

Kahn/Kahn: 14

Richter's perfectly capable of taking out Brahms. He's average speed and doesn't have the whole VP enemy = Goes last clause, plus heh as Hydrostorm which plays hell on old Brahms' MDEF.

Not to mention he's already snuffed out his own share of tough vampires. Yeah, no big deal for him here.

Before the match is to begin Golbez shows up and tells Fujin that dropping the r from Meteor turns it into an ultimate attack...

Seifer and Fujin finally reach the throne room... Fujin prepares to cast her first Meteo spell ever. However, it takes so long that Brahms shows up and goes after Fujin. Seifer finally realizes that the one he was destined to protect his entire life was Fujin. As Brahms charges forward he takes the attack, sacraficing his own life. This buys Fujin the time needed to blast Brahms into oblivian.

Brahms dies... Seifer dies... Fujin wins... we are all finally happy.
