Season 21, Week 4
Jack van Burace
(Wild Arms)

Now this is what the arena is all 1: swordsman against swordsman! Two masters trying to get the better of each other. Lloyd may be going into this with two swords and a reputation for quick, heavy damage, but Jack has the bag of tricks that is his Quickdraw. Healing, instant death, random damage, and more ... he has plenty of chances to tip the match to his favor. Perhaps Jack will even aim for confusing his young opponent, preventing him from using his own abilities to their fullest, and then cutting him down at leisure. Who needs two swords when all you can do is hit things with them? One sword that can do almost everything is far mightier a tool in the hands of a master - especially one aided by the great mind of a small furry animal.

After an astonishing victory over the powerful and popular Arc Knight Dycedarg, Lloyd Irving now finds himself in the semi-finals, facing one of Heavy's most hardened and talented warriors in Jack Van Burace. Nothing to fear for the young swordsman, though; he's come this far, and now isn't the time to back down! With his Material Blades shining, a fearsome swarm of two-bladed strikes will keep the blademaster on his toes, and Jack doesn't dare knock Lloyd to the breaking point: after his last few foes saw Falcon Crest, Lloyd can be certain Jack won't fight at full strength, lest he push him too far and meet the same fate. With his usual trump card primed and ready, Lloyd has nothing to fear on his continued march to the finals.

"Welcome, gentlemen. I see that you have all decided to join me." A cloaked man said, gazing upon those who had arrived.

"I thought it would be pretty obvious that I would attend" Jack van Burace said, taking a sip of his drink. "I mean, this does directly affect me."

"That fool has sullied the name of Shining Force 2! The Greater Devils will not stand for it!" Zeon roared.

"Agreed." Dycedarg said coldly. "I want my revenge."

"So it's all settled, eh?The cloaked man said. "Now, let's get down to business. Just how should Irving fall?"

"Make him feel the pain we did!" Dycedarg yelled. "That boy must suffer!"

"Oh, don't worry. I'm planning something special for Lloyd. Just wait until you see the kind of influence I have in judge selection..."

The day of the match had finally arrived. The arena was filled to the brim to see what would happen in the battle of Lloyd vs Jack. Of course, given the Season, they were ready for anything.

"In this corner, we have the Iselian Swordsman himself, Lloyd Irving!"

Lloyd entered the arena to the cheers of his Symphonian castmates... only to gaze in horror at the other side of the arena.

"And in the right corner, Jack van Burace and friends!"

Jack was there... but not alone. Bowie, Dycedarg, Zeon, Zalbard, Cameela, Geshp, Odd Eye, Cecilia and Rudy Roughknight all stood in his corner, and they looked like they meant business.

"Grr... Interference!" Lloyd yelled.

"Give us time to deliberate this." A familiar voice called from the judges' box.

"Time? What time do you need? This is clearly a violation of the... oh no."

It was at that time that Lloyd had finally taken a look at the judges.

"Looks fine to me." Chief Judge Mithos said with a shrug. "Anyone disagree?"

Riou, Serge and Crono said nothing. Jet Eduro, the fifth judge, was too busy angsting to make any sort of objection.

"The decision stands." Mithos said with a smirk. "Fight your battle and die."

At that point, all hell broke loose. Trump Cards, Fury Shot Arch Smashes, Holy Explosions and various Shining Force and Wild Arms magic hit the arena, doing more than enough damage to shred any normal man. But Lloyd somehow endured.

"Ugh..." He groaned, falling to his knees. "Aren't you... going to finish me off?"

"Nah." Jack grinned. "I've won already."

"You... think so, huh? I'm taking you down with me!" Lloyd yelled, charging up his dreaded Falcon Crest. "Prepare your... agh!"

At that, Lloyd fell to the ground, completely unconscious. Jogurt walked away, a smug look on his face. Jack was victorious.

---

"Worked just like I said it would, huh?"

"You were right. I won, and I don't think he'll ever live down being knocked out by Jogurt." Jack said with a grin. "Course, there's one thing I'm wondering. Why did you want Lloyd dead so badly?"

"Lloyd's lost me quite a lot of money as of late, particularly with his battle against Dycedarg. You got to win your match, the others got revenge and I made a killing on bets."

At that, Setzer took another sip of his drink and grinned.

"After all, isn't that what the Dueling League is all about?"

"Rising Falcon!"

Lloyd majestically swooped down, a raging missile of Jack penetration! Straight through Jack Van Burace Lloyd shot, leaving a gaping hole in the Fast Draw swordsman! Even as blood and gore sprayed out from the slain Dreamchaser, Lloyd landed and stood, unbloodied and perfectly gleaming! The Material Blades were unspotted, his clothes flawless as he raised one sword to the heavens! Lloyd had won!

"I was just warming up," Lloyd tossed his swords into the air, the blades perfectly falling into his sheaths. Looking to the arena crowd, Lloyd basked in the adoration! The Sword of Swords has once again triumphed over impossible odds, defeated Trump Card, Void Sword and myriad other deadly sword arts with only his immaculate skill! Grinning with a cocky abandon, "Just way too easy!"

Walking away and leaving what was left of Jack to the ----!

"AAAAH!"

Jack's scream could have woken the dead. In fact, it technically did, his wife stirring and blearily staring at her husband. Cluching at his chest and scowling, Jack barely noticed Elmina's words. "Jack...you okay?"

Turning to his wonderful wife, "...Nothing, just...

I didn't think it could even happen in my dreams." A breath is taken, before Jack grins mightily. "At least Lloyd won somewhere."
