Season 21, Week 3
Kain Highwind
(Final Fantasy IV)

Baron’s premier Dragoon will be riding high this week, and not just because that's his combat specialty. His long-standing feelings of inadequacy against his friend and rival Cecil will finally fad as he again vies for a Light title and a return to (relative) glory. And it helps that Kain and Cecil will be competing in the same week, meaning a certain white mage will be in attendance. A victory here will be a threefold triumph, and Kain can’t afford to foul such an opportunity. Fortunately, the archer Rebecca is renowned for her speed, not her power, meaning her arrows will leave nary a scratch in Kain’s battle-hardened armor. His dreams are but a spear-stroke away, and Kain isn’t playing to lose.

Just as she did six seasons ago, Rebecca proved last week that she's one of the finest archers Light has ever seen. Her next opponent is ... a lance-wielding knight, a style of fighter she's all too used to facing. Much like the knights and generals Rebecca is used to fighting, however, Kain's defence is useless against Rebecca's Silver Bow and the excellent speed with which she fires it. To say nothing of the Pheraen girl's excellent evasion, which none of Kain's attacks can overcome effectively. Fire Emblem has had plenty of success in Middle in the past; this season, Rebecca is bringing that success to Light, and she's not going to let the weakest of the Final Fantasy IV cast slow her down!

Kain had little time, so he had to make up his mind immediately. "Do I want to go fight a losing battle in Light where I'm scheduled to be, or go win spectacularly in Heavy to earn back my old reputation for greatness?" Phrased like that, there was really no question.

So Rebecca waited and waited, but her opponent just wouldn't show up.

Eventually the judges got bored and gave the somewhat sheepish archer the win. Later, she heard that Kain had made some kind of scene at Cecil's fight. "Well, I guess it's always been good to support your friends..."

Kain Highwind: 43
Rebecca: 47

Well, all right, we know that Rebecca can shoot targets very well, and that she's faced spear-wielding knights... but what about spear-wielding knights that JUMP, thus rendering them impervious to attacks?

Ha, I didn't think so.
