Eh, yeah it was funny but the controls were super loose and sloppy and the grainy voice acting irritated me. Maybe if it was half as long.

EP: "You saved Fungus." What.

Captured the 2nd stratum boss! I'm not very consistent about doing that sort of thing, but Ashley combos, they be a handful. Maybe I should actually try summoning someone for once? (I usually just eat captured majin for skills.)

Eating Majin for skills and equipment is doin' it rite. The monsters are just too openly understatted compared to your party - even mercs.

Quote from: Ciddy
Why am I just noticing Glynne has identical character design to Rufus in VP2? Glynne is a Rufus that simmers forever with the resentment of the permanently friendzoned. Meanwhile everyone in town has openly told me they know Reyna's a dude but he still does his hair like a girl anyway. Well hey, I guess if you can get away with it.

Both of those statements are correct.

SMT 4 - Minotaur down. I mostly rode on stacking Tarukajas abd Rakundas while having Flynn and Makara spam Bufu. The general offensive spread meant I was on a timer there, since Minotaur can deal horrendous amounts of damage and spread it around very far. Fortunately, I managed to chew through his HP pretty fast with maxed Taru+3 Dekunda Bufus (300 damage a shot!). Back to magic being the god stat.

Minotaur p. badass.  I seem to recall using Sukukaja as well and praying for dodges, as Minotaur's multi-hit BS, while insanely badass, gives more opportunities for him to miss and thus lose a whole action, which gives a lot of breathing room.  Not a RELIABLE strategy and I certainly wiped to him several times, but it eventually worked (in concert with some other buffs and a team full of ice-spammers).

It's still pretty impressive how tanky the cow is.  He can survive 4+ rounds of smashing him with his elemental weakness in the face while buffed while throwing horrendous damage back that can't be reliably stopped.  Owowowow.  (Even more badass in the DL, I'd imagine - 2 PCHP+ damage a round to a single-target when his rando-target ability focuses?  Absurd durability against non-Ice?  Yikes.)

I'm pretty sure he's a bit below 2x PC HP to me and, due to how dodging punishes one's actions in the game, he's quite vulnerable to high evade (i.e. toss him at Arnaud and watch the fireworks fly). But that's still positively absurd offense - something like Chelle-level at first and only grows -dumber- as his HP goes down. I tried Sukukaja spam in my first run and I decided it wasn't worth it given how Suku x4 didn't score a -single- dodge. Taru stacking proved more efficient, since it stacks up obscenely with weakness spam. I lucked out even so, since a smirking Flynn managed a dodge late in the fight which proved enough to end it all.

(Idly, I agree almost completely with you on Issachar's DL worth. Horrible durability + slow + wastes his first turn under 75% health to me => lawlz.)

Also Jonny Gat may be the lamest NPC in the game.

If it's any consolation, his screentime in SR3 is minimal (for reasons SR4 should've made obvious).

~

EP: Big Bad Monster sez, "So Izel is not the only one wearing a mask." Reyna sez, "This disguise is the only clothing I brought with me. I am not ashamed of it!"

:)

You know, I don't think anybody ever even explained what the heck Reyna was doing there in the first place. Meanwhile Glynne is still master of the obvious. "It must've been hard killing your dad huh? Ashley let me shaaaaare your paiiiiiin." (Basically verbatim, dude's not a creeper at all.) *earlier, during battle* Glynne: "Ashley, don't push yourself too hard." Ashley: "He's my father, he's the final boss, he's my father and the final boss!" Glynne, not arsed with inflection: "Oh. Okay."

:(

3rd stratum boss was hilariously not immune to fracture. [Fracture negates a character's strength/vitality bonuses to attack and defense. A creature so afflicted is lucky if it manages to deal single-digit damage in this state.] Needless to say I took my time to capture it properly. Back in town I turned it into...a special attack for a weapon type no one in my party uses. Bah! (Same thing happened with the 2nd stratum boss.) Final boss wasn't anything special at all, just circle around the room picking apart his friends one by one and then dogpile. Ares MVP, woman is a beast (though it says something about the sheer ridiculousness of Ashley that even with the boss halving her damage type she still dealt more than most of the party). The game definitely has maps that can threaten you by making it difficult to gank enemies individually, but when you can do that risk-free there's basically nothing to it. Odd game, AoE magic is wholly unremarkable because if you're ever even in a situation where you can hit multiple enemies at once, you've probably done something wrong.

So anyway big bad is dead and then people say some stuff and the game's basically like, "We could put an ending here if we felt like it, but we don't right now." Okay. I guess it's up to the other characters' chapters to play fill in the blanks. This is a damn long game if they're all approximately the same duration, though. Loading clear file = NG+? Whatevs.

In sum, today I learned that spinning around in place before you fire an arrow makes it hit harder.

Paper Mario: Tubba Blubba beaten!  Also, Bow is totally Snow if he were a Boo...also yay to her having a 5 damage physical when everyone else does 4!

Codename STEAM: Got the Demo.  It's basically Valkyria Chronicles, only set in Victorian England, with Steam Punk Sci-fi technology, with Abraham Lincoln piloting his own Presidential Airship named Lady Liberty leading the team.  Yes, this is a game that takes itself completely seriously with totally photo-realistic grimdark graphics and...

...I'm not fooling anyone, am I?

It's fun but one flaw I'm already noticing is enemy turns seem to take too long.

Yes, yes it is. It rides itself mostly on having pretty much entirely distinct maps for each PC and very variable map dynamics for each path. If it's any consolation, Ashley's path likely the least interesting of the three gameplay-wise (Olifen path hands you more PCs than any other and they're all quite good, Thage has the objectively best PC draw, but Thage's magic immunity requires extra attention. And -all- of them back themselves off different dynamics).

I ordered a DDR mat and a game to try to get a bit of exercise, and it's pretty fun so far. I'm currently doing songs in the second difficulty and it's going pretty well. I haven't really been gaming in the past few days otherwise, though.

Hexcells - played through

Okayish, but I guess I've been somewhat spoiled by Picross and I can't really get into tapping out a board that isn't going to form a picture. Consequently have no plans on getting the other games in the series. Not really much to say!

Tengami - played through (on Wii U)

I was expecting it to be short, but not as short as it turned out being. Pretty much all the game has going for it is some amount of style - there is no apparent reason for you to be doing what you're doing (unless you count 'making this tree bloom via abstract means'), the puzzles devolve into looking for symbols hidden on the sides of things as you turn pages rather than you actually doing anything via manipulation, the character moves pretty slowly which doesn't seem too bad to begin with but becomes pretty annoying when areas become large or you need to backtrack. Sometimes the game got its pathing data confused and the character would walk in bizarre directions to go where you asked, including one time when I selected inside an area they wouldn't normally be able to move into but did anyway, then couldn't leave. I was afraid that it would autosave in that location, but fortunately restarting the game restarted the current area.

All up: Not a fan.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - played through, didn't collect all relics

Pretty great except when it's being infuriating. Man, I remember when Rambi showing up meant that you were shifting into easy gear for a while in the DKL games, but in DKCTF Rambi sections are universally terrible. Way to make me dread them showing up, game. Barrel Rocket and Minecart segments are still around and still terrible also, and no, game, that 'Minecart' segment late in that one level does not make up for it. Next time you want to try something like that maybe add in more destructables and remove the pits.

Level 5-K is too stressful to play, but I got all KONG & puzzle pieces in all other levels I had access to. I doubt that there's anything superfantastic that I'm missing out on, going by what getting all the relic equivalents in DKCR got you.

Game, why must you crack open each figurine capsule ONE AT A TIME given that you need to buy tens of them at a time in the later areas in order to have any hope of getting anything new

Ultimately the game was awesome except for the times you were bearing through things waiting for it to be awesome again.

Ziggurat - Played through several times

Beat the game on Easy with Argo, Kraz, Menzi, Algorab, Rigel, Saiph, Corvus, and Jules so far. Failed several times with Simon and once with Osuna, haven't tried the other two yet.

Initially tried playing on Medium but wasn't even able to beat the first floor. I don't know if I'll bother retrying on Medium after I finish beating Easy with everyone, although I guess it would be something to do while unlocking the rest of the unlockables (assuming that doesn't happen while futilely trying to win with Simon).

Good fun, although if you get unlucky enough with weapons that could change. There's that terrible whirlwind spell for magic, a couple of atrocious fire-causing weapons for alchemy... don't recall seeing any useless staffs yet, although there's probably at least one.

Citizens Of Earth - started (on 3DS)

So. The graphics in this game all seem like they were just shrunk in an image editing program rather than being designed specifically for the 3DS. They're all blurry and kinda bad, it's not very inspiring.

The game is not being very compelling so far. Got it a week ago and I'm fairly sure I'm still in the prologue chapter. Not entirely sure what the problem is given that I typically devour handheld games at the expense of everything else when I have one on the go... maybe things will change when I get further along. It looks like everyone's going to have distinct movesets and so forth that I should be all over.

I should do more of this.

Speaking of, I play some games.

WoW - Just recently beat 6/7 of Highmaul on Normal with a group I have a good reputation with.  Granted, I don't feel like I'm doing that well, since I'm only sixth out of seven on DPS rankings.  Need to get myself better gear.

FF14 - Still working on crafting levels here and there, but more gathering anymore.  Got my Scholar up to L48.

Dark Souls 2 - Went and did Shaded Woods, missed everything in Doors of Pharos and they did Brighstone Cove Tseldora.  Coop continues to be hellas fun.  Was sad when I realised I had misremembered previous discussions and found Sunlight Altar is in Harvest Valley, not Shaded Woods though.

Went to Heide's Tower of Flame.  Dudes die easy but I am shit at games and got knocked off edges many times.  Plan was to unlock path to Harvest Valley though.

3D World: Up to world Bowser, first seven are completely cleared out. Will probably have to use a continue or two somewhere in this one; Red Hot Rush cut my supply of lives from 50+ to 23, and it's been slow attrition from there.  I ended up cutting it very close on the World Castle boss, too - he absolutely refused to throw bombs at me for a stretch, meaning when I finally beat him I had 12 seconds left on the clock. Thank goodness (and Miyamoto) for the +100 clock they put in the post-boss flag area, or I'd have timed out on my victory lap, and that would be horribly embarrassing.

Paper Mario: I just beat an army of Shy Guys.  I feel strangely empty now since I went through the Shy Guy section and did NOT a get a Shy Guy PC but something else entirely.

At least there were Shy Guys on Stilts!

Codename STEAM: Completed the demo.  The last stage makes me even more interested in the game simply because it gives access to 2ndary weapons, and the Cowardly Lion's unique weapon shows promise in the variety this game may have.

What, did he somehow not solo the boss?

There may or may not be an occurrence later where Jester Thomas is WAY more metal than you'd like him to be. Fuuuuuck that invasion.

Picking away at luck mode in FO:NV, this happened: http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/529506324658562907/1C3A45BA1E47DD7C40CA9ACBEC4B18E8EC909803/

I don't know what this Great Khan thought he was doing, but apparently it proved fatal. He just died right in front of me humping the scenery. Take note folks, poledancing not a gentleman's sport.

I've just noticed I spent half the game running around with ten thousand uncashed Tops chips in my inventory. This makes no difference whatsoever for anything. Presently trying to steal Benny's gun to assassinate him with it, but the first time he caught me and on quickload Maria stops appearing in his inventory. Have to reboot the game for it to properly reappear. Bah! I'll come back when I've maxed stealth.

~

Touhou Labyrinths: Tenshi boss fights are stupid. I went into the last one 25 levels above the game's recommended and still only two people in the party could realistically damage her. I had to stick Remilia at the back of the party so she wouldn't get targeted because no one else could reliably do anything and the boss could still kill her in one hit. (Even still it was like half a dozen reloads before the boss decided to stop being a prick by going out of her way to one-shot the character I stuck in back specifically to avoid her being targeted.)

Even with 100 Sneak grabbing anything worthwhile is a crapshoot.  I think I actually broke a hundred ties individually on grabbing both Maria and the Ranger Sequoia.

Last time I played o got that achievement.  Tried pick pocketing a bunch and gave up.  Shooting it out of his hands and going for a flurry to pick it up was way easier.

Thomas didn't solo the boss because is as dumb and was overly aggressive and died.  Just killed her solo after that.

Dreeps: Alarm playing game
Dudes I totally set up my alarm. I am level 4.
It is unironical Progress Quest with a built in alarm and I still don't know why I bought this.

80 days: This is a pretty cool story / resource management game about going around the world in 80 days. Pretty excellent writing.
I'm going pretty fast but I'll only have 500 pounds left after using the Orient Express. I don't know how I'll cope.
I wonder if you can go around the world by going North-South instead of East-West. If not, all these African cities are just there because having them is cool, I guess.
