Grandia Three
« on: January 16, 2008, 12:18:54 AM »
Welcome to Grandia 3!  New and improved!  Thanks to Eph for the original, though I've gone through and modified/edited some things, added ultimate equips, etc.  Should look prettier.  Thanks also go to MF for boss notes on Emelious and Xorn, as well as working out how the Flash status works.

Grandia 3 plays similarly to Grandia Xtreme, but since like no one has played that, a better explanation is thus:

Mechanics
Battles are very CTB-ish, with higher INI characters acting earlier, and moves having lag-time/recharge time.  Techs all gain levels, and it is assumed that all techs are taken at max level (5).  This is generally true of most skills except the later ones, but I feel it makes the best differentiation between uniqueness of techs, and the only one that might take longer is Ulf's Dynamite Rush, which is learned the latest (and improves the most with tech levels).  All SP levels are also taken at max, which again, is generally a bit higher than normal, but not by much (you'll likely max all of them but Alfina and possibly Ulf normally).  Defenses are subtractive, and fairly significant due to the multi-hit system - Ulf takes about 3x the magic damage as Alfina, for instance.  Characters are all given unique equipment and starting skills/spells/eggs/whatever.  The usual.  Like in other Grandias, the cancelling system for charging skills is in effect.  I noted what skills cancel, but I think most people ignore this anyway.  Boost effects (WOW, Flash, etc.) generally last for 5 turns, so they do wear out, but fairly slowly.  Levels are also taken at 55, which is a little above endgame, probably, but doesn't change too much in the end.

Vital Statistics and What They Mean
HP: Indicates the amount of life-force a character has; once reduced to 0, the character is roadkill
MP: Indicates the amount of spiritual force a character has; magic requires these
SP: Use these for special abilities; note that SP is carried over between battles and can be restored in-battle, but does not automatically regenerate at save points, so some could view characters with 0 SP due to this
ATK: Boosts physical damage
MAG: Boosts magical damage
DEF: Reduces physical damage
RES: Reduces magical damage
INI: Initiative, or speed; take it literally, as 120 INI will EXA 60 INI regularly
MOV: Movement, which affects not only the speed and range which characters can move to attack/change positions, but also evasion

Status effects are generally listed with the attacks that cause them, but here they are as well:
Poison: 5% MHP damage around once per character turn; slightly delays IP gauge build-up whenever it takes effect by ~25%
Paralysis: Character cannot move or act
Sleep: Character cannot move or act; not cancelled by magic or physicals
Silence: Character cannot use special moves or spells
Confusion: Character acts randomly - may attack/cancel allies, run around the battlefield doing nothing, or defend for long periods of time
Instant Death: DEATH
Sickness: 10% MHP damage around once per character turn; slightly delays IP gauge build-up whenever it takes effect by ~25%; randomly either lowers a random stat or causes a random status effect whenever the damage effect kicks in
Flash: A special status brought into effect by Yuki's Flash, Ulf's Shadow Warrior, and Emelious's Shadow Wave; grants perfect evade against evadable attacks as long as a character is not getting hit, getting up off the ground, charging a move, executing a move, or repositioning themselves after executing an action

And to block those nasty statuses:
Confusion Amulet: Blocks confusion
Mithril Ring: Blocks poison and paralysis
Poison Amulet: Blocks poison
Sickness Amulet: Blocks sickness
Sleep Amulet: Blocks sleep

And with that...let's begin!

Sleep Cards: +58 ATK, inflicts sleep (target cannot act) ~25% per hit, casts Snooze (inflicts sleep ~50%)
***Sage's Robe: +90 DEF, +50 RES, Immune to Silence (This is questionable, as, while Alfina has no use for the silence immunity and 35 RES loss due to her unique equip, it does technically off more DEF for her, but makes a lot more sense to put on Dahna - just noting it as an extra piece of equipment for those who might allow it)
Angel Dress: +64 DEF, +64 RES, Immune to Instant Death
Holy Cloak: +55 DEF, +55 RES, Immune to Sickness

Dancing Cards (25 SP): Dahna summons 10 cards; these 10 cards circle her and perform counter attacks on enemies for 150 damage per card; these cards counter each hit of any physical or magical attack, up to 10 times; so, a 10 hit attack will cause all cards to hit the enemy, a 5 hit attack will cause 5 of the 10 cards to attack, and a 15 hit attack will still cause only 10 cards to attack the enemy; the cards can be refreshed by using the skill again; using a critical will send all 10 cards to attack an enemy at once as well as her dealing her normal critical damage (450 damage per card with Power Cards equipped; 11 total hits if she uses a critical)
Mana Spring (75 SP): Lowers MP costs of all spells to 0

Temp time!

Miranda and Alonso are taken at level 12, with Yuki and Alfina the same.  Techs are taken at level 2 (first power level increase as well as the speed increase).  Otherwise, pretty self-explanatory.

4) Alfina - 320/107 (Ripple Shot+Combo*2)

Hect is taken at level 55 like the rest of the endgame cast.  I could see taking her against Alfina as well (she'd actually like this), but since they never fight together, I don't.

BOSSES!!

Bosses are fairly self-explanatory, I guess.  Not much else I need to say here.

Kornell

"KORNELL BUSTER!"

Kornell 1:
HP: 300
DEF: 1000000!
RES: -400
INI: 6.022x10^23

Attacks:
Normal Attack: Fail
Sonic Blast: Fail

*This is a scripted fight that you cannot lose, hence doesn't count >_>

Kornell 2
HP: 1400
DEF: Above Average (~5% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Below Average (~5% more damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 44
*Kornell comes with 2 henchmen for support, in addition to his Iron Fist; the henchmen have 350 HP each and deal 15 or so damage with a physical combo or Cherry Bomb, about 30 with Howl, or about 55 with Bamboo Splitter

Combo: 40 physical damage, cancels
Cherry Bomb: 30 non-aligned item damage
Kornell Buster: 130 physical damage, cancels
Sonic Blast: 90 physical/wind damage, LT

Iron Fist 1
HP: 700
DEF: Above Average (~10% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Below Average (~10% more damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 52

Combo: 35 physical damage, cancels
Megaton Punch: 75 wind/physical damage, Around

Party Averages (Yuki and Alfina level 5, Miranda level 7)
HP: 255
INI: 54
Damage: 92

Kornell 3
*Fights with Violetta 1
HP: 9600
DEF: Above Average (~10% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Below Average (~10% more damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 56

Combo: 120 physical damage, cancels
Kornell Buster: 350 physical damage, cancels
Scatter Bomb: 100 non-aligned item damage, AoE
Sonic Blast: 210 physical/wind damage, LT
Revival Elixer: Revives a downed ally to 50% MHP

Iron Fist 2
HP: 7200
DEF: Above Average (~10% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Below Average (~10% more damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 64

Combo: 100 physical damage, cancels
Megaton Punch: 210 wind/physical damage, Around
Tremor: 180 earth/magic damage, MT
WOW: Raises physical damage by ~50%, AoE

Party Averages (Yuki and Alfina level 22, Ulf and Dahna level 21)
HP: 752
INI: 63
Damage: 705
*Note that you can have a lot more powerful spells and the like by now; this is the exact same point that mana egg fusion opens up, and it's very easy to have Galactic Bang on all party members (~2500 damage-~5000 damage, depending on set-up) as well as Astraea Zap (~1500 damage-~3000 damage, and it's MT) with a bit of work.  Considering this is the end of disc 1, and it just opened up, I'm not taking it into the averages, though you can if you like.  Also, you have a one-time use of Drak's Orb for 2800 MT fire/magic damage on average, depending on who uses it, plus additional residual damage.  I didn't factor this into the average, but it's there.

Violetta

"Get ready!"

Violetta 1
*Fights with Kornell 3
HP: 6400
DEF: Below Average (~10% more damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Above Average (~10% less damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 78
*Violetta has a base evade rate of 25% against evadable attacks

Combo: 70 physical damage
Freeshooter: 250 physical damage, FT, cancels
Burnstrike: 240 fire/magic damage
Runner: Raises INI and MOV by ~50%; only used when the Scythe is dead

Demon Scythe 1
HP: 8000
DEF: Above Average (~10% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Below Average (~10% more damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 72

Combo: 65 physical damage, cancels
Howlslash: 150 wind/magic damage, LT
Howlnado: 280 wind/magic damage, AoE, inflicts confusion ~50%

Violetta 2
HP: 6400
DEF: Above Average (~10% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Above Average (~20% less damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 128
*Violetta reduces all damage, of any sort, by 80% before taking into account her defenses (yes, this includes everything I could find, including attack items and every other thing I could find...though, I suppose you could say ITD attacks pierce it)
*Violetta has a base evade rate of 50% against evadable attacks

Combo: 180 physical damage
Freeshooter: 990 physical damage, FT, cancels
Burnblaze: 1400 fire/magic damage, FT
Hellburner: 1200 fire/magic damage
Burn Wall: Surrounds Violetta with a ring of fire, dealing 125 fire/physical damage to any foe that gets within melee range; melee attacks cannot hit her; this is, basically, melee immunity
Chant of Despair: 600 magic damage, lowers DEF and RES by ~50%, MT
Runner: Raises INI and MOV by 50%; only used when the Scythe is dead

Demon Scythe 2
HP: 35000
DEF: Above Average (~20% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Above Average (~10% less damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 112

Combo: 220 physical damage
Dance of Death: 1500 physical damage, cancels
Erebos: Inflicts instant death ~50%
Howlslash: 500 wind/magic damage, LT
Howlnado: 1050 wind/magic damage, AoE, inflicts confusion ~50%

Party Averages (Level 38)
HP: 2276
INI: 64
Damage: 2888
*Everyone has level 3 Life Up, except Alfina (like MF's Emelious notes...so 20% more HP on everyone but Alfina, who has 15% boost).  I'm also assuming an ultimate spell on everyone (Absolute Zero, Galactic Bang) - I made everyone a different master of different elements (granted, Ulf's will fail no matter what, unless you use the Chaos Flail), though you could easily have Galactic Bang on everyone if you wanted.  Also, you have a one-time use of Drak's Orb for 7500 MT fire/magic damage on average, depending on who uses it, plus additional residual damage.  I didn't factor this into the average, but it's there.

La-Ilim

"Crumble!"

La-Ilim 1
*La-Ilim fights with an Undead Dragon he/she/it summons before the battle; since this support is pretty significant, I'll actually note all of what it can do
HP: 12000
DEF: Above Average (~20% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Above Average (~20% less damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 88

Combo: 50 physical damage
Poizn: 50 magic damage, inflicts poison ~100%
Craze: Inflicts confusion ~50%, MT
Crackle: 400 water/magic damage
Diamond Dust: 500 water/magic damage, FT
Escape: RUNS AWAY!!  Note that La-Ilim always uses this right after the Undead Dragon is killed or if La-Ilim falls below 50% MHP

Undead Dragon 1
HP: 18000
DEF: Above Average (~5% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Below Average (~10% more damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 136

Combo: 200 physical damage, LT, cancels
Chaos Flare: 460 fire/magic damage, FT
Hell Fang: 850 fire/physical damage, cancels
Escape: RUNS AWAY!!  Note that Undead Dragon always uses this right after La-Ilim is killed or if the Undead Dragon falls below 50% MHP

Party Averages (Everyone level 34)
HP: 1624
INI: 64
Damage: 1819
*I'm assuming Galactic Bang on 1 person (Dahna), even though you can have more by now.  I'm going with the fact that, while you had time to make a bunch of them before the start of disc 2, it is a small frame, so I think this is a decent compromise.  Second, since Life Up is buyable in Terrarium (the last town before the boss), I'm assuming it at level 0 on everyone (5% HP boost).  Also, you have a one-time use of Drak's Orb for 5000 MT fire/magic damage on average, depending on who uses it, plus additional residual damage.  I didn't factor this into the average, but it's there.

La-Ilim 2
*La-Ilim fights once more with an Undead Dragon, but also with the skull he/she/it always carries around - once more, this skull is much like Kornell's Iron Fist and Violetta's Demon Scythe, as in attached to their body; delaying the skull will also delay La-Ilim's action, so they are connected (like with Kornell and Violetta)
HP: 36000
DEF: Good (~25% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Good (~40% less damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 88

Combo: 100 physical damage
Comet Cannon: 600 physical damage, AoE (note that this can only be used when the Undead Dragon is alive)
Poizn: 50 magic damage, inflicts poison status ~100%
Craze: Inflicts confusion ~50%, MT
Fiora: Inflicts silence ~50%
Energy Drain: 500 magic damage, restores HP equal to 50% of total damage dealt per, MT (note that this can only be used when the Undead Dragon is alive)
Crackle: 650 water/magic damage
Diamond Dust: 780 water/magic damage, FT
Crackle Fang: 960 water/magic damage, MT

Crystal Skull 1
HP: 64
DEF: Sexilicious (~99% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Sexilicious (~99% less damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 40
*The Crystal Skull takes either 1 or 0 damage from everything; basically, it's never dying, though if you do kill it, the Undead Dragon also disappears, and neither can be revived again

Combo: 80 physical damage
Cold: Lowers INI and MOV by 50%
Dark Blitz: 110 physical damage, cancels
Stram: Lowers ATT and MAG by 50%, AoE
Dark Mist: 700 magic damage, AoE
Def-Loss: Lowers DEF and RES by 50%, MT
Rebirth: Revives the Undead Dragon to full HP

Undead Dragon 2
HP: 9000
DEF: Above Average (~20% less damage taken from physicals on average)
RES: Below Average (~10% more damage taken from magic on average)
INI: 136

Combo: 300 physical damage, LT, cancels
Chaos Flare: 600 fire/magic damage, FT
Hell Fang: 1300 fire/physical damage, cancels

Emelious (From Monkeyfinger)

Everyone is level 40.

PCHP:
Yuki: 2726
Alfina: 2365
Ulf: 2947
Dahna: 2219
Average: 2564

PC Damages to randoms:
Yuki's Dragon Slash (OPB, effectively): 3100
Yuki's Blade Storm: 2000
Yuki's Absolute Zero: 3700
Alfina's Astraea Zap: 3500
Ulf's Dynamite Rush (another OPB, and really sluggish unlike Dragon Slash): 4000
Ulf's Flame Spike: 2600
Ulf's Galactic Bang: 3000
Dahna's Galactic Bang: 6000

PC Speeds:
Yuki: 62
Alfina: 61
Ulf: 74
Dahna: 58
Average: 64

Emelious is a 4 part boss. The basic physicals of the parts that have them (main body, demon blade) fail too much at damage to be worth noting. They cancel, though! All the parts also have some physicval evade, but it isn't godly. None of the techs or spells of the non-Godkiller parts have signifigant charge time or lag attatched.

Main body:
64000 HP
Above average PDef (~15% reduction)
Average MDef
Really fast. Maybe 1.5x? I'll get turn figures later. (90 INI)
Dimension Blade: 1100 unevadeable physical damage
*Emelious has a base evade rate of 50% against evadable attacks

Orb of Darkness:
32000 HP
Average PDef
Good MDef (~30% reduction)
Averagish speed
Shadow Ball: 450 evadeable, non-elemental magic damage
Shadow Wave: 500 magic damage, MT, unevadeable, grants Emelious's main body Flash status (2x combo hits, evade boost)
Dark Force: 600 magic damage (I know it's magic because other enemies have a version of this move that actually, uh, does damage (to the low RES people) - it's 30 hits of small damage, so Alfina can null it, but Ulf takes a large portion of damage from it).
Runner: Raises INI and MOV by ~50%; only used when the blade is dead

Demon Blade:
48000 HP
Below average PDef (~25% increase)
Below average MDef (ditto)
Slightly slower than the main body. 1.4x works as a rough estimate.
Spirit Wail: 2300 unevadeable physical damage

Godkiller:
99999 HP.
Immune to all damage.
Godkiller: Game over, in the same style as FFX Giga Graviton. Insane charge time (10 or so of the other parts turns?) Can be cancelled.  It does over 40,000 damage. >_> Thought I point that out.  It takes 40 seconds to charge)

Evalutation: There's 3 ways to take him.

You can allow all his parts and give them each their separate stats and moves. This gives him an impressive HP total, overkill physical damage off of crazy speed, and some failish magic backup. High godlike.

You can hold him to the stats of his main boidy and let him use the moves of all his parts. This gives him okay HP and high 2HKO damage off of good speed. Still a nice godlike. Melfice + unless he runs into a physical wall, in which case he puts his head between his legs and kisses his ass goodbye.

You can hold him to the stats and moves of his main body. He now 3HKOs. Heavy?

Xorn (From Monkeyfinger)

Everyone is level 46. Life up setups are the same as for Emelious (Level 2 on Alfina for 15% boost, level 3 on everyone else for 20% boost)

PCHP:
Yuki: 3292
Alfina: 2989
Ulf: 3740
Dahna: 2809
Average: 3207

PC Damages to randoms (I don't have everything mastered like Eph does):
Yuki's Dragon Slash (OPB, effectively): 3900
Yuki's Blade Storm: 3100
Yuki's Absolute Zero: 4000
Alfina's Heaven's Gate: 7500
Ulf's Dynamite Rush (another OPB, doesn't lag insanely anymore): 5500
Ulf's Flame Spike: 4200
Ulf's Galactic Bang: 5000
Dahna's Galactic Bang: 7000

PC speeds:
Yuki: 68
Alfina: 69
Ulf: 74
Dahna: 66
Average: 69

Xorn only has 1 part. Assume his moves don't have a charge time or lag unless I explicitly state otherwise.
128,000 HP
Below average PDef (~10% increase)
Above average MDef (~25% reduction)
170 speed (2.46x average)

At the start of the battle, he can only use 4 moves.
Physical: 200 MT focusing damage (so 800 on one target). (If you're wondering why I never put the MT damage tag on anything Emelious has, it's 'cause he's got none).
Dark Hymn: 1450 unevadable physical damage.
Thunderclap: 1100 AoE unevadable, wind elemental magic damage. Note that G3 groups wind and lightinng into the same element, so if you want to call Thunderclap lightning, there's no in-game disproof.
Erosion: Inflicts Sickness, 100%. Sickness is 10% MHP poison that kicks in less than once per round, and very rarely causes a random status or stat down.

After losing 32,000 (25% HP) he keeps all the above moves and gains the following:
Death Knell: Creates a black circle around the target. After something like 2 of the target's turns, hits the target and a small AoE around it for 4500 unevadeable physical damage. Xorn doesn't stop acting while Death Knell "charges". For those who care, this is always his first move once his new movelist unlocks.
Despair: Dispels stat modifiers and makes the target immune to them. Laggy.
Darkness: 1200 AoE unevadeable physical damage.

After losing 64,000 HP (50%) he keeps all the above moves and gets:

Dimension Gate: 2500 unevadeable physical damage.

Evaluation: Ridiculous speed (Take it literally. He regularly laps your whole party in-game.) A high 3HKO when unhurt, high 2HKO after losing half his life. Death Knell rapes healers and tanky sluggers. Impossible to buff against. Non-fail durability (pretty tough against magic.) Yeah, godlike.

Can you believe I forgot to port this over?  Heh.  Anyway, bringing it all over and update (which it's been for...a while now!).  Just need to pull over the bosses and edit basic information in.  Currently in transit right now - watch for finishing post soon!

Death Knell - THE TIME HAS COME FOR YOUR ETERNAL SLUMBER!
Despair (1) - WARMTH AND COMPASSION HAVE NO PLACE IN MY WORLD!

Melc Crystals

These are placeholder notes, as my copy of G3 is currently on loan. I'll try to get it back later this week. Also, OK/Monkey anyone, where did you find the other bosses' INI stats? It'd be nice to know Melc's exact figures...

Rough, rough party averages:
~1900 HP, ~2300 damage, ~64 INI (these are based by interpolating OK's other boss notes, and may vary by +/-10%)

Melc Crystals have two forms, Golem and Bird. They start out as Golem. When they switch forms, they all switch forms together. There is one body crystal, and two arm crystals. All three need to be killed to end the battle. Most GT attacks hit all three at once, as they're never far apart. The two forms share HP figures

Body (Golem)
32000 HP
Speed averagish... I'd guess slightly below?

Physical - 400, next turn comes twice as fast
Hellmixer - 1300 ITE ST physical, huge IP damage (like half a turn probably), cancels
Megaspark - 700 ITE MT wind (lightning) physical
Cluster Change - 200 ITE MT physical, cancels. Switches forms for self and all allies. Allies' place in turn gauge is preserved as this happens.

Arm (Golem)
28000 HP
Speed averagish... I'd guess slightly below?

Physical - 400, next turn comes twice as fast, cancels
Hellburner - 1200 ST fire magic
Boomor - 900 GT fire magic
Fiora - GT silence+moveblock, ~75%?

Body (Bird)
3x average speed

Physical - 200, next turn comes twice as fast
Feather Blizzard - 400 ITE GT physical (not water)
Cluster Change - 200 ITE MT physical, cancels. Switches forms for self and all allies. Allies' place in turn gauge is preserved as this happens.

Wing (Bird)
3x average speed

Physical - 200, next turn comes twice as fast, cancels
Ripper - 300 ITE physical, hits a line
Zap - 350 GT lightning magic

Comments: These are rough notes, but you get the idea.

As a single target given all moves, Melc Crystal's not too special. Durability's in the area of PC and a half, 2HKO to either defences but kinda slow? That said, Hellmixer is evil and will easily see Melc getting a second turn before all but speedsters get their second, and enjoys great turn advantage from there. Having a quick hit cancel move is also pretty nasty if you see it working on duellers who are about to get a turn (YMMV). Decently accurate silence also isn't bad. Heavy/Godlike area? I dunno.

With all three targets? Well um the thing is that unlike most Grandia bosses, the "support parts" aren't actually much worse than the core. They're only slightly less durable and slightly less damaging. So yeah, overkill damage each turn, with some knockback, and durability which is great against ST since you need to take all of them down. Bird form's offensive output is similar, so the main reason to spend a turn to go into it is to get around fire resistance for the arms. High Godlike this way.

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.

A paper guide that Ephraim had
