Lufia and the Fortress of Doom (Full)
« on: August 27, 2008, 07:09:28 PM »
This topic was originally created by Gourry.

Yay. Lufia 1 is a relatively recent addition to the DL roster, and discussion in the games topic reminded me that I had an endgame save lying around. I didn't use any stat potions on anyone in the game, since I made sure that it was a semi-legal playthrough. I tested at level 48, since that's just above the level where the Hero and Jerin get Valor. Hero was probably level 49-50 after all of the Sinistrial fights.

Physical damage in Lufia 1 is just (ATP/2) - Target's DFP/2. In this case, defense is 40. As for magic... well, I dunno. Probably something with INT, but the differences between the damages for Artea/Selan and Jerin/Lufia's spells don't seem to fit a real pattern.

As for stats:
HP: If this value is 0, the character dies.
MP: Must have to cast spells.
STR: Directly influences ATP. This + Weapon Power = ATP.
INT: I'm pretty sure this influences spell power, so only Lufia and Jerin's INT scores really matter.
AGL: Speed. This is a bit screwy in game, but if you go back to fight enemies in the beginning of the game, they'll almost never get turns on you. However, the enemies you fight are comparable to the party, in that they can get turns in.
MGR: Magic Resistance.
ATP: ATP/2 - DFP/2 = damage
DFP: Defense.

Lv48 Red Haired Main
HP: 397
MP: 231
STR: 174
INT: 98 (113)
AGL: 87 (105)
MGR: 142 (157)
ATP: 174 (504)
DFP: 64 (199)

Dual Blade: +300 ATP
Zircon Armor: +50 DFP
Zircon Plate: +30 DFP
Zircon Helm: +25 DFP
Mach Shoes: +2 DFP, +10 AGL
Wave Ring: +30 ATP, +22 DFP, +15 INT, +8 AGL, +15 MGR

Physical: 232

Spells
---
Champion (8 MP): Full Healing.
Drain (3 MP): Lowers target's DFP by a third.
Poison (2 MP): Cures poison.
Stone (5 MP): Cures petrify.
Courage (5 MP): Adds +57/33/15/14 to Hero's DFP.
Trick (5 MP): Adds 137/73/47/29 ATP. Half of the ATP increase is added to damage.
Succumb (8 MP): 15% ID!!11 (Seriously, this wouldn't even hit the slimes at the beginning of the game very well.)
Fright (4 MP): Sleep. 40%. (Unless I tested on something weird, Lufia statuses suck.)

Evaluation: Decent. He's above average in most aspects (that Wave Ring helps him out quite a bit), and he has a few Tricks (OMG LOL) up his sleeve. He has several shots of full healing, and his stat up spells help him quite a bit. I suppose Dread doesn't hurt, either. I suppose he's a Heavy, though not a stellar one.

Lv48 Lufia
HP: 300
MP: 411
STR: 101
INT: 195
AGL: 94 (104)
MGR: 173
ATP: 101 (222)
DFP: 48 (120)

Catwhip: +121 ATP
Clear Silk: +37 DFP
Silver Wrist: +18 DFP
Carbo Cap: +14 DFP
Mach Heels: +3 DFP, +10 AGL

Physical: 91

Spells
---
Flood (15 MP): 160 water damage.
Sunder (20 MP): 165 damage.
Thunder (12 MP): 215 damage.
Stronger (5 MP): Heals 90 HP
Shield (2 MP): Increases Lufia's MGR by 62
Courage (5 MP): Increases Lufia's DFP by 32
Drain (3 MP): Lowers target's defense by 1/3.
Deflect (3 MP): Silence. 70%
Succumb and Fright (ID and Sleep): See Hero. 15% and 40%, respectively.

Evaluation: Light. She should be able to shut most mages out due to high MGR (which can be boosted with Shield), as well as Deflect, which is decently accurate Silence. Unfortunately, she is unable to use Zircon equipment (seems strange, since I think she was comparable to Jerin for most of the game), which hurts her physical defense quite a bit. As is, she's seriously 1HKO bait.

Lv48 Aguro
HP: 456
MP: 0
STR: 223
INT: 64
AGL: 77 (87)
MGR: 102
ATP: 223 (511)
DFP: 74 (181)

Zircon Axe: +288 ATP
Zircon Armor: +50 DFP
Zircon Plate: +30 DFP
Zircon Helm: +25 DFP
Mach Shoes: +2 DFP, +10 AGL

Physical: 236

Evaluation: Gee. Another fighter with lots of HP and defense, as well as bad magic defense. He's like Dekar and Kongol, except not nearly as good or interesting. Seems like a fine Light, though. I suppose there's the Luck Blade, which is a 400 ATP increase. Thing is, it's cursed, and most people say that it misses 50% of the time. It's not worth the boost, no matter how attractive 282 damage physicals seem (assuming a 50% hit rate, it'll only average 141 damage).

Lv48 Jerin
HP: 398
MP: 314
STR: 161
INT: 184
AGL: 127 (137)
MGR: 151
ATP: 161 (321)
DFP: 71 (159)

Zircon Rod: +160 ATP
Zircon Robe: +44 DFP
Zircon Wrist: +25 DFP
Zircon Beret: +16 DFP
Mach Heels: +3 DFP, +10 AGL

Physical: 141

Spells
---
Vulcan (15 MP): 175 fire damage.
Glacier (18 MP): 155 ice damage.
Champion (8 MP): Full Healing.
Mirror (3 MP): Reflects all harmful magic back at caster. Lasts 3 turns.
Trick (5 MP): +83/41/24 ATP.
Confuse (3 MP): Confus'd! Confused enemies stop being confused after getting hit. 60% hit rate.
Poison (2 MP): Cures poison.

Evaluation: Her damage is lackluster, but she seems pretty decent other than that. I was surprised to see how well balanced her stat turned out to be (HP just over Hero's, all stats well over a hundred). Anyhoo, she's quick, effectively shuts down mages, has lots of full healing, and can get pretty decent damage with Trick.

Stat junk
---
HP: Aguro (456) > Jerin (398) > Hero (396) > Lufia (300)
Average: 388

Defense: Hero (199) > Aguro (181) > Jerin (159) > Lufia (120)
Average: 164.75

Magic Resistance: Lufia (173) > Hero (157) > Jerin (151) > Aguro (102)
Average: 146

Agility: Jerin (137) > Hero (105) > Lufia (104) > Aguro (87)
Average: 107.5

Damage: Aguro's Physical (236) > Hero's Physical (232) > Lufia's Thunder (215) > Jerin's Vulcan (175)
Average: 215

TEH SININSTRAILS!
Gades
~4000 HP
~240 Defense

Attacks:
Undead: +127 ATP, +82 ATP, +51 ATP
Undead + Physical: 195-221 to Aguro.
Destroy: 296-362 to Aguro. 401 to Jerin. 391 to Hero.

Evaluation: So... basically, he can 2HKO anyone in the party with a boosted physical, and he probably 1HKOs everyone with boosted Destroys. Leagues better than that silly Lufia 2 form.

Amon
~3900 HP

Attacks
---
Dread: 1/3 of current DFP. Might be useless if Confused characters can't attack themselves.
Sunder: 100-135.
Melanchoy: Nothing. What the fuck?
Flood: 110
Chaos: Confuses. 5/10

Evaluation: This form isn't too hot, especially if his Lufia 2 spells focus. PH33R Melanchoy, though.

Daos
~4800 HP (couldn't keep track because he kept casting Stronger)

Attacks
---
Glacier: 130
Thunder: ~150
Flood: 100-140
Amnesia: Paralysis. 7/18
Vulcan: 115-125
Dread: Loses 1/3 of current DFP. Generally useless since Daos doesn't seem to have physicals.
Stronger: 89 Healing. Holy Shit.

Evaluation: Since more people know that Lufia 2 Daos' spells focus, he should be getting a little more respect (maybe). At any rate, this form sucks ass, aside from its incredibly 90 points healing. Can't beat that.

Basically, Gades wants this form, and the others want to stick to their Lufia 2 forms (or Lufia 3, for those who've played it).

Boss Notes by Pyro!

A few boss notes.

On note before we begin: Lufia 1 bosses are typically fast, but lose initiative on the first turn.

Demon Lords: (You fight 4 of them)
HP: 50
Speed: Quite fast.

Skills:
Physical: 10
Mirror: Magic reflection, 3 turns
Dew: 12 water magic damage. MT
Strong: 28 healing

Average HP: 57
Damages to them:
Hero's attack: 20
Lufia's Flash: 20
Aguro's attack: 20

Comments: Kind of scary in-game thanks to there being 4 of them. DL light. Shockingly effective thanks to magic reflection and (infinite?) healing for damageless healers. I suppose they beat anyone slower than them who can't beat their healing. Give them credit for there being 4 of them and they become pretty damn solid though.

Goblins: (you fight 3 of them)
HP: 135
Speed: Fast

Skills:
Physical: 14

Average HP: 67
Damages to them:
Hero's attack: 23
Lufias Flash: 18
Aguro's attack: 28

Comments:
Annoying as hell in-game thanks to there being 3 of them and that damage adding up very fast. Your healing can barely hold up with it. DL Lights. 5HKO scrubs with no tricks.

Apprentince: (Fights only the Hero)
HP: 340
Speed: Fast.
Notably good defense.
Note: Vulnerable to sleep, although he seems to resist it?

Skills:
Fake: +~8 agility (he doubles very regularly after this)
Physical: 17
Jolt: 30 Lightning magic damage
Potion: 17 HP healing!!!! usable at low HPs

Average HP: 90
Damage to him:
Hero's attack: 19 (25 after a Power Gourd but that quickly wears off)

Comments: Tank, even scaled to 3 PCs. Very fast with Fake and his effective damage becomes quite good once that is up. In-game you had better bring an assload of items and heal a lot. DL Low Heavy? Dislikes lightning resistance but the durability and speed go a long way.

Phantasm: "Miserable humans! I won't let you stop me!"
HP: 745
Speed: Above average.
Above average Mdef and good Pdef.

Skills:
Physical: 23
Spark: 25 magic fire damage, MT.
Confuse: 60% chance of confusion, MT.
Drowsy: 50% chance of sleep, MT.
Shield: +24 MGR. Roughly thirds your magic damage after this.

Average HP: 112
Damages to him:
Hero's attack: 19
Aguro's attack: 30
Lufia's Flash: 20

Comments: Well, we have ourselves some Godlike durability here. What else does Phantasm have? Some kind of scrubby status and magic damage. Goooooood luck killing him with magic after he casts Shield. As a disclaimer, you can (very rarely) get an enemy to drop a Scimitar prior to the fight. Then he's only tankier than an average boss instead of crazy. In-game be prepared to deal with the status (Shrieks and Awakens), and keep healed. Hope he doesn't get lucky with status hax. DL he is a Heavy off of that durability and some status. Healers who don't fall prey to his status just totally waste him.

Follower: "Amon shall be revived!"
HP: 900.
Speed: Fast.
Good Physical and magic defense.

Skills:
Physical: 33
Frost: 25 Ice magic damage, MT.
Drowsy: 60% sleep, MT.
Drain: Reduces target defense.
Stronger: 85 healing. Usable below half HP, I think.
Bolt: 60 Lightning damage. Usable below half HP, I think.
Grin: Confuse. Seems to almost always hit (90%?). Usable below half HP, I think.

Average HP: 125
Damages to him:
Hero's attack: 10
Aguro's attack: 22 (35 if you keep him under Power Gourd)
Lufia's Flash: 50

Comments: Annoying. Durable and has status. Stronger is stupidly effective in-game because it throws out a round of your damage and more if you aren't buffed. Flash ring makes this fight sane. DL Heavy. That durability is good, and he has status/screws some Heavy healers with Stronger. Weird.

Dark Ghost: "This tower is mine!"
HP: 1100
Speed: Very fast (regularly doubles 125% speed), though not first turn.
Damage taken from physicals: 30%
Damage taken from magic: 65%

Skills:
Physical: 50
Water: 48 Water magic damage, MT.
Ectoplasm: Drains MP. Seems to be very random, but knocks out average in about 2 shots. Think this has a half HP unlock.
Stronger: 89 healing. Half HP unlock, I think.

Average HP: 150
Damages to average:
Hero's physical: 70
Aguro's attack: 90
Lufia's Flash: 80
Jerin's Frost: 50

Comments: Ghost is pretty decent in-game if he spams Water. He really doesn't like being after a spike in damage and a 4th PC. Ectoplasm is a devastating trick with that pdef. Heavy. In-game he's mostly nasty for that consistent MT damage and the Hero's Drain makes a mockery of his defense. Isn't the DL funny?

Guardian: "Blah blah revive Amon blah blah UOM POWER!!!!"
HP: 1500.
Speed: Faster than Jerin. About 130-140%.
Damage taken from physicals: 23%
Damage taken from magic: 35%

Skills:
Flame: 70 fire magic damage, MT
Blizzard: 60 Ice magic damage, MT
Absorb: Absorbs approximately 30 MP.
Dread: Drops Defense. Totally worthless.

Average HP: 220
Average MP: ~160 (120 if you count Aguro!)
Damages to average:
Hero's physical: 118
Aguro's physical: 130
Lufia's Bolt: 180
Jerin's Flame: 145

Comments: DEFENSE TANK. Yes, Ugly Old Man power infuses him with the ability to tank damage and dish it out... acceptably thanks to that speed. Elemental or magic walls utterly nerf him though (as demonstrated by how badly Jerin defenstrates him if you have Mirror). Heavy.

PIRATES: (fights with Bosun)
HP: 3500
Speed: 150%
Damage taken from magic: 110%
Damage taken from physicals: 95%

Average HP: 304
Damages to average:
Hero's physical: 140
Aguro's physical: 160
Lufia's Bolt: 180
Jerin's Flame: 155

Physical: 85 damage.
Jolt: 160 physical damage.
Ex Bomb: 80 physical damage, MT.
Big Arrow: 70 physical damage.
Stun: Attack up 70/44/28 (damage goes up by half that)
Foul: 45% MT sleep, magical
Roar: 60% MT confuse, magical.

Storm: 100 water magic damage, MT. Usable below half HP, where he likes to spam it.

Comments: Arrr. Pirates (and yes, theres only one of him despite the name) may be the best boss yet! A low 2HKO that can be buffed to be a solid one, some status that will let him win if he hits it, and boss calibur durability (very solid if you give him support credit for Bosun). Annoyingly fast, too. Pirates is a solid Heavy.

Bosun: (fights with Pirates)
HP: 1300
Speed: 150%
Damage taken from magic: 100%
Damage taken from physicals: 110%

PC stats: See Pirates.

Hi Potion: 93 healing.
Dubious: Defense up.
Sleep Arrow: 25% MT sleep, physical.
Puzzle Arrow: 25% MT confuse, physical

Comments: Don't think he can even hurt someone unless he can confuse them into hitting themselves. Puny.

Oil Dragon:
HP: 4700
Speed: 125%
Damage taken from magic: 100%
Damage taken from physicals: 80%
Extremely resistant to fire (1/5th damage)

Average HP: 349
Damages to average:
Hero's physical: 230
Aguro's physical: 200
Lufia's Thunder: 320
Jerin's Vulcan: 250

Physical: 65 damage.
Oily Air: Agility down, MT. Magical
Fire Air (1): 50 fire magic damage, MT.
Fire Air (2): 130 fire magic damage, MT.
Dash: 140 physical damage.
Mirror: Reflects magic. Lasts about 1-2 turns.

Coments: uhh... huh. Total Mirror bait in-game (Oily Air will result in his agility skyrocketing down!). He's... a Middle in the DL, I guess. Magic reflection is nice, as is the decent speed. Damage sucks for a boss though, and he wishes he was fought before the devastation of Flash Ring Thunder.

Nazeby: "I have the honor of sending you........ TO YOUR DOOM!"
HP: 5600
Speed: 150%
Damage taken from magic: 70%
Damage taken from physicals: 70%

Average HP: 395
Damages to average:
Hero's Physical: 215
Aguro's Physical: 230
Lufia's Thunder: 320
Jerin's Vulcan: 250

Spark: 20 fire magic damage to all
Flame: 60 fire magic damage to all.
Vulcan: 120 fire magic damage to all.
Bolt: 80 Lighting magic damage to one.
Blast: 80 explosion magic damage to all.
Frost: 40 Ice magic damage to all.
Glacier: 100 Ice magic damage to all.
Dew: 20 water magic damage to all.
Flood: 110 water magic damage to all.
Succumb: Incredibly, incredibly sucky magic ID against all. We're talking like 5% here.

Mace: 50% physical ID against one. WHY did they have to give him a move that doesn't fail it up? They were doing so well...

Comments: Mace defines him. He can hit some elemental weaknesses but 4HKOs. He is durable and fast, at least. Probably a Heavy boss. Stupid Mace.

Gades: "So! The little knight has a little sword! But does he know how to play with it?"
HP: 4000
Speed: 128%
Damage taken from magic: 74%
Damage taken from physicals: 73%

Average HP: 440
Damages to average:
Hero's physical: 230
Aguro's Physical: 230
Jerin's Vulcan: 250

Physical: 160
Destroy: 300 physical damage. (480 after Undead)
Undead: Attack power up +128/76/52.

Coments: well, what is there to say? Gades is durable and hits hard. Turns out he's pretty damn fast too, regularly doubling my average speed hero. He can make himself OHKO with an Undead or two. High Heavy. Entirely physical hurts him though. In-game he is only ST and faces the combined healing might of endgame Jerin and Hero. Winning combo.

Amon:
HP: 4000
Speed: 125%
Damage taken from physicals: 70%
Damage taken from magic: 110%

PC stats: See Gades, add about 5 average HP.

Melanchoy: Turns into Lufia 3 Amon who does 444 hits of ITD 444 damage. (then instantly emos about how much this form fails and heals the party to full. Net effect is nothing)
Dread: Defense down, MT. Magic. Targets would take about 15-20% PCHP more in damage or so. But then theres that pesky fact that Amon has no physicals.

I guess I should list his serious moves too, huh?

Chaos: MT confusion. 13/16 hit rate.
Flood: 115 water magic damage, MT.
Sunder: 115 explosion magic damage, MT.

Comments: Cast Mirror. Move on to next boss. Grah, why does Amon not suck? He wastes most of his turns on Melanchoy and Dread in-game, so him being able to not suck is offensive. Ah well, confuse and 4HKO magic damage in 2 flavors and fairly fast. High Middle/Low Heavy? I have to point out at this point that Amon may have the worst boss design I've ever seen. Completely shut down by a spell you are guarenteed to have and wastes mosts of his turns? In addition to that, Mirror causes Dread to hit him multible times and nerf his defense, making him die all the faster.

Daos:
HP: 4400
Speed: 135%
Damage taken from physicals: 60%
Damage taken from magic: 65%

PC stats: See Gades, add about 10 average HP.

Dread: Defense down, MT magical. Same comment about Amon and

Glacier: 110 Ice magic damage.
Vulcan: 125 Fire magic damage.
Flood: 110 water magic damage.
Thunder: 165 Lightning magic damage.
Stronger: 90 healing.

Amnesia: MT magic paralysis: 7/21

Comments: Doesn't suck nearly as much as he should. His strategy is to either outslug with his low 3HKO thunder magic or hit the enemy with 33% paralysis and then hit them with Thunder. Entirely magical and very easy to shut down. Tank, though. Middle/Heavy

Guard Daos:
HP: 6400
Speed: 150%. Seriously, fast bastard.
Damage taken from physicals: 63%
Damage taken from magic: 100%

Average HP: 415. Welcome back Lufia. We missed you.
Damages to average:
Hero's physical: 215
Aguro's physical: 230
Jerin's Vulcan: 250
Lufia's Thunder: 350

Figual: 85% MT confusion, magical.
Flood: 110 water magic damage.

Comments: Fast confuse whore, physically tanky. Not much to say about Guard Daos. Total mirror-bait, just like Amon and Daos. Middle/Heavy
