Boston is ridic small. If DLCB falls during a time when I'm not in Germany over the summer, I'd love to join. Vegas & Vancouver nay, but will certainly wish you all the nerd best.

Don't have a strong preference for where DLCon is.  Just need to know where to start planning!

If I had to choose, I'd be all for a more central or east coast one, since it was west coast last year, but I really don't have a preference

Stating a strong preference for Vancouver here. It's the most financially doable, not to mention that if we set the con for late summer (second weekend of August or later), I can actually buy tickets soon if not right now. Coming from Japan makes it difficult if it's east-coast US.

I'd support Vancouver Con; I admit the whole "west coast again!" thing is not something I'm fond of but at least it's a different locale, so I won't let that play too big a factor.

Since NEB made me look in here to do a quick count of who was favoring Vancouver or Boston, I'll throw my hat in the ring for DL #canucks

I'll make a quick little tally of how many votes seem to be going to which area.

Vancouver: 13

Boston: 4

That is significantly more lop-sided than I remembered/expected, but hey! (I only counted people who had stated a preference. Anybody who effectively said "fuck it, wherever" were not included)

Either location would be cool to me and wouldn't really factor into whether I could attend or not.

Regardless of location of Con, this year's Bard looks like they are busting out big guns this year.

I thought I'd note that I'm fine if we get Boston too, and don't really have a preference.  My limitation is going to be more "is it a good weekend" than anything else.  The one thing I will say about Boston is that if it's there, I would probably drive to the area and help out any driving if need be.  Can't do the same for Vancouver.  This is not me throwing in a nod to Boston as much as just going "if we do Boston, consider me a potential driver" and nothing else.

Have we settled on a place/time yet? I think most people need to start planning when to take vacation days.

East Coast sounds pretty fine with me. I'm not sure I will attend, but it seems fair to have a Con in the east this year.

So what's the landscape of a con in either place? The feasibility of hosting and the logistics of where to stay/how to get around are going to matter a lot for planning.

For Vancouver, it is easy to get around purely by public transit, and we can try to secure access to a couple of cars if necessary and car rental should be straightforward and on public transit lines. I've looked at house rentals and I haven't found anything that wows me here in particular, so we'd need to do additional research on that front if you guys decided to come here. The general warning about a Vancouver con is that it will be quite expensive to fly to and stay at relative to American cities (although the city's cost will be lessened by the weak-ass Canadian dollar), and you will need a passport to come here. One way of lowering the cost is to come into Seattle or Bellingham, and there is a bus that goes from those locations to here, but it is time consuming to take those options.

For Massachusetts, cars will be required to get anywhere or do anything.  I live well outside the city, and just getting to the commuter rail to take you into Boston is a 15 minute drive.  Getting to the subway is a 30 minute drive.  Getting into the city is 45 minutes, not counting rush hour. (Getting to and from the airport via these public transportation options is not difficult, actually.  The airport has a free shuttle to and from South Station, which is where the commuter rail comes in on.  South station is also a stop on the same subway line as Alewife, the stop that is a 30 minute drive).  Between myself and my parents we have three cars, and I can let someone else drive mine and borrow one of theirs without too much trouble.  Depending on the number of people attending we will probably still need to rent for transport to/from group events.  The local mall and (candlepin!) bowling place are both a little too far for multiple trips.

In terms of accommodation, we have about 10 or 12 futons and bedding to match.  Not much in the way of privacy - all the rooms people would be sleeping in would be open.  I don't know about local motels or whatnot - I live in Carlisle, Massachusetts if people want to poke around and see what's available.

Bowling is a DLCon tradition, so I don't think that will be a problem.

If it's in Massachussets, you can probably count me in as a driver.  I say "probably" because nothing is certain, but I should be able to aid in that circumstance.

Let's just take a poll to settle location. (Sadly can't do an actual topic poll because there's no easy way to enforce it to DL attendees).

Also this is assuming that NEB/Ciatokins and Jim are of course 100% OK with hosting it, you guys kind of have more voice than the rest of us by bearing that burden; if hosting it this year would be a bit of a hassle for you personally, please do speak up! I think that is the most important factor.

Otherwise, pick 1 of:
- Strongly prefer Vancouver
- Mildly prefer Vancouver
- Strongly prefer Boston
- Mildly prefer Boston
- Fine with whatever

Thanks.

I strongly prefer Vancouver but no surprise, I tend to only make the west coast cons and I want an excuse to finally accost Excal

Strongly prefer Boston, there's no way I could get to a Vancouver con.

Mildly prefer Vancouver. I haven't been to, so it would be nice to visit although for the most part, even if it was in Boston, I wouldn't mind so much.

My parents live near Seattle and I have some coordinated summer-time plans that are all (naturally) West-coast focused. Andrew and I could probably pull Boston-con if things swung that way.
